03/21/2017 PET PROFILE MEMO
03/21/17 12:56 Jay spent the night the night in his fidner’s home. There was 2 adults and 3 children that were 5 months, 10 years and 13 years old. Jay was respectful and and played gentle with the children. He was fed dry dog food and the owner pet Jay and removed the food bowl when Jay was eating. Jay looked up and stared at the finder and showed no behavior concerns. He appeared to be house trained because he did not have bathroom accidents in the home. The finder walked him at night and in the morning. When they passed another dog walking, Jay would perk up but would not pull on his leash or bark. During, the admissions process Jay whined and wondered around the room. He took treats gently from the couneslors hand. He appears to know the command sit. He would nuzzled the couneslor’s hand when pet on his head and ears rubbed.

03/25/2017 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Oh Jay! What a handsome gentleman. I’m a sucker for boxer-looking dogs with big block heads, and Jay has definitely got it going on. Jay is very easy to walk, seems to be housetrained, and can sit for treats (plus he takes them out of your hand with the utmost gentleness). Jay is friendly and affectionate, nuzzling his big old head into my hands for pets at every opportunity (and trying to jump up for kisses, too!). His tail wags so fast he could power a jet engine, and this pretty boy’s delight at the world is absolutely infectious. Come and meet him at the Brooklyn ACC today!

03/22/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: Limited profile 3/21/17 Intact Male, Stray (1 night in the previous home) Previously lived with: 2 adults and 3 children (ages 5 months, 10 and 13 years) Behavior toward strangers: Friendly Behavior toward children: Respectful and gentle Behavior toward dogs: Unknown Behavior toward cats: Unknown Resource guarding: None reported Bite history: None reported Housetrained: Yes Energy level/descriptors: Other notes: Upon intake Jay was calm and allowed all handling. SAFER ASSESSMENT: 3/22/17 Look:1. Dog leans forward or jumps up to lick the Assessor’s face with tail wagging, ears back and eyes averted. Sensitivity:1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag:1. Follows at end of leash, body soft. Squeeze 1&2: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Toy 1: Minimal interest in Toy, dog smells, then turns away. Summary: Jay was very friendly and social towards the assessor. DOG-DOG INTERACTION ASSESSMENT: Summary PLAYGROUP: Jay was surrender as a stray so his past behavior with another dog is unknown. When off leash at the Care Center, Jay immediately displays sexually motivated behavior (lip chatters) while greeting a novel female. He persistently attempts to mount her, ignoring her correction and handler interruptions. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 3/21/17: During his medical examination, Jay was friendly and allowed all handling. ENERGY LEVEL: Jay displays a high activity level in the care center. RECOMMENDATIONS: Experience (suitable for an adopter with some previous dog experience, particularly with the challenges noted below) Potential challenges: _X_Basic manners/Poor impulse control: Jay has a low threshold for frustration and shows a lack of impulse control when interacting with both humans and dogs. He is persistent in his mounting behavior. This may decrease after neutering, but we cannot be certain since this behavior is currently so intense. He will likely need guidance and support to learn to greet and interact appropriately with his human family. We recommend only force-free, reward-based training methods for Jay as more aversive techniques are likely to increase fear.

03/22/2017 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Jay was surrender as a stray so his past behavior with another dog is unknown. 3/22: When off leash at the Care Center, Jay immediately displays sexually motivated behavior (lip chatters) while greeting a novel female. He persistently attempts to mount her, ignoring her correction and handler interruptions. 3/23: Jay continues to engage in sexually motivated behavior with a novel male. He persistently sniffs his rear, and attempts to mount him, and is difficult to interrupt.
