09/03/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Remember cats eye marbles? That’s what Ace’s eyes remind me of – clear amber, sharp, and to be treasured as the best in the group. I loved my time with this gentle boy. He’s gorgeous, a vanilla face on top of his caramel body remind me of an ice cream cone, to be savored on a hot humid day, or any day for that matter. He’s great on leash, seems to be housetrained, posed for photos like a superstar, wags his tail gently as we walk, sits (with a bit of coaxing) and takes treats gently. He has the cutest pink nose (the cherry on the vanilla ice cream?), his weight is perfect for his size and although he has some callouses on his pressure points he’s been well taken care of. On his first playdate he greeted the helper dog politely, and his medical intake notes say he was a “good patient” (I love that). Ace has an ear infection which needs to be treated and we’ve taken first steps here. A super gentle sweetheart who didn’t want to go back into his kennel Ace knows this isn’t where he belongs. He belongs snuggled with his new family, wagging his tail at his good fortune. Come meet him today and let’s get this sweetest of dogs home. Note: This video was taken when Ace was formerly named “Jay.” Ace is the correct name.
08/27/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Jay pulls a bit on the leash. He was sociable toward the handler during the assessment – soft body. He was calm and relaxed during handling. Jay followed the assessor at the end of the leash with a calm and relaxed body language when playing tag. He shows minimal interest with toys. Jay did not show any concern during the behavior assessment. The behavior department feels that he can go to an Average home. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft, ears back, wagging tail. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Toy: 1. Minimal interest. Dog may smell or lick toy, then turn away. Playgroup Notes: When introduced off leash to another dog in the care center, Jay briefly sniffs and greets politely. However, he is distracted by scratching his ear (has ear infection).
08/25/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
When introduced off leash to another dog in the care center, Jay briefly sniffs and greets politely. However, he is distracted by scratching his ear (has ear infection). The behavior team feels that Jay could potentially be adopted to a home with another dog pending a successful pre adoption interaction and slow introductions. He arrived into our care as a stray, so there is no available history of previous interaction with other dogs, and it is unknown how his behavior will translate into a home setting.
