02/21/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: What an amazing, gentle boy Jay is! He is always very quiet in his cage but makes soft eye contact with his bright eyes. He walks beautifully on leash, knows “sit”. He’ll rest his head on my lap when I pet him and is wiggly as he follows me around in the yard. He was found with a female dog, Bey, but his love isn’t limited to her — he’s done fantastic with other dogs in playgroup and has been used as a helper dog to help integrate new dogs! He has such a soft personality and his face make me melt every time — please come see for yourself at Brooklyn ACC! He’s going to make someone very lucky!
02/16/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Jay came in as a stray, so his past behaviors in a home are unknown. At intake it was reported Jay was friendly and loose for all handling. During SAFER Jay came into the assessment room calm and relaxed, he was friendly, social and affectionate towards the assessor. He allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Jay was relaxed during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment Jay was easy to handle when engaged with the item. Jay appears to be sociable, and did not display any behaviors concerns, so the department feels he can be suitable for an “Average” adopter. Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft, soft and loose body, open mouth. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are relaxed. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are relaxed. Toy: 1. Minimal interest in Toy, dog smells, then turns away. Dog-dog: When off leash with other dogs, Jay greets softly with a low, loose body. He does not solicit play but is tolerant of a pushy female soliciting his attention. Jay was also polite with dogs who are uncomfortable, he gives them room to explore the pen and is not pushy.
02/15/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Jay greets with a low, loose body and solicits play with bounces and slaps. He engages in spinning bouncy play and is able to take breaks when the energy level becomes too arousing. Jay responds to corrections from other dogs and human interruptions immediately and is respectful of nervous and uncomfortable dogs by not crowding them and allowing them space to explore the pen. Due to his behavior in playgroup, the Behavior Department feels that Jay is suitable to live in a home with a dog of any age and of any temperament. ** Social Helper Dog ** When off leash with other dogs, Jay greets softly with a low, loose body. He does not solicit play but is tolerant of a pushy female soliciting his attention. Jay was also polite with dogs who are uncomfortable, he gives them room to explore the pen and is not pushy. 2/16 update: Jay greets with a low, loose body and solicits play with bounces and slaps. He engages in spinning bouncy play and is able to take breaks when the energy level becomes too arousing. Jay is hesitant to allow another dog to sniff his rear but doesn’t react negatively, he just spins himself around into a play bow. 2/17 update: Jay greets softly at the gate with a low, wiggly body. He solicits play with play bows and spins. Jay keeps he distance from a dog that is signaling her uncomfortableness with his physical interactions. 2/18 update: Jay takes corrections from other dogs immediately and is respectful of nervous dogs, allowing them space to explore the pen.
