02/12/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
02/12/16 18:15 Basic information: Jax is a 3 year old Staffordshire neutered male. His previous owner got him from the person who owner him before him when he was 6 months old. He was surrendered because his owner’s landlord no longer wanted him to have Jax. He has no known injuries or health problems and the last time he went to the vet was in June of 2015. Socialization: Around strangers Jax is friendly and outgoing. And when he plays with adults he is exuberant. Jax lived in his previous home with children and around children ages 3-8 years old Jax is relaxed and playful and when he plays he is gentle. When spending time with other dogs Jax is playful and exuberant when he plays. Behavior: Jax has never attempted to bite a person or animal. He has destroyed things indoor. He isn’t bothered of storms or fireworks. If his food bowl is touched while he’s eating Jax keeps eating and has a relaxed body and wagging tail. He is friendly if a treat is taken from him and playful if a toy is taken from him. He isn’t bothered if he is pushed off furniture, given a bath, having his coat brushed, or if he is held/restrained. He is afraid of having his nails trimmed. He was friendly if an unfamiliar person approached his home or previous owner. He isn’t bothered if he is disturbed while sleeping. For a New Family to Know: Jax is described as playful, affectionate, playful, shy, and excitable. His activity level is medium. The two things his previous owner liked most about him were he’s great with kids and goofy. When his previous owner was home he would tend to follow him around. He likes to play with rope toys. His favorite game is tug. At night he slept in his dog bed. He eats dry Beneful. He is house-trained and only has accidents 2-3 times a month. He is well-behaved when left alone in the home. He knows how to sit on command. For exercise he went on brisk walks 4-5 times a week. On the leash he can either putt lightly or pull very hard. When off leash he wanders but comes when called. Behavior during intake: Jax allowed me to pet him, collar him, and take pictures. He sat on command and took treats from my hand gently. He rolled over on his back and jumped up for attention. He had a wagging tail and was very playful. Jax showed no signs of aggression.
02/16/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: This stunning boy doesn’t walk, he actually prances! No pictures can do justice to the beauty, the elegance and the laugh-out-loud wonder that is Jax–you simply must come see him for yourself. High-stepping down the street on the longest legs this side of a supermodel, Jax draws admiring stares wherever he goes and once you get to know his sweet and generous nature, the admiration only grows. Why the long face? Well that’s just his signature Hound-y look (I call it ‘Chestnut Steel’!) and behind those seemingly sad eyes lies the happy heart of a lover, not a fighter. Jax is friendly with dogs and people alike, a soft snuggler and tug-o-war enthusiast who’s lived in gentle harmony with toddlers and small children and has no problem being loved on any which way. Described as playful, affectionate, shy and excitable, when asked to name his two favorite things about Jax, his previous owner chose his ‘goofy’ nature and how he’s ‘great with kids’. In playgroup this energetic boy is Mr Social, all bouncy play and good humored tolerance. Jax would be best suited to an experienced and active home. This wonderful gent is waiting at our Manhattan Care Center, already neutered and immediately ready to grace your home with his unique and beautiful presence. Make a date with Jax today!
02/19/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Jax came into our center as an owner surrender citing being destructive in the home. It is reported Jax would chew the wall whether home alone or someone was in the home with him. Owner reports Jax is friendly around strangers, has lived with children ages 3-8 and plays gently with them. Jax is not bothered if someone touches his Food, Toys, or Treats. During intake Jax was friendly and allowed all handling, playful. He was sociable upon entering the SAFER assessment room, but began to bark once tethered to the wall. Jax allowed his head to be cupped in assessor’s hands, eyes averted. He leaned into assessor during Sensitivity item, tail wagging, mouth closed, and ears back. Jax followed at the end of the leash for Tag game, a bit distracted. He became overly aroused towards end of game, grabbing leash. Jax continued to attempt to mouth during Squeeze item. Once positioned, he did not pull his paw back on first attempt, but displayed high energy and movement in between attempts. He did not pull his paw back on second attempt, mouthing assessor’s hand with no pressure. Jax showed brief interest in Toy, but quickly became distracted and relinquished it easily. When off leash with other dogs Jax postures to mount but does not. He responds well to correction from the helper dog. Jax is reported to show destructive behavior in the home, such as chewing holes in walls. We are unaware of what, if any, attempts were made to remedy this behavior but we suggest to future adopters that Jax will need to be provided with physical and mental stimulation and with a variety of appropriate and engaging chew toys so he can engage in necessary chewing behavior without damage to human objects. The behavior department believes that Jax can go to an adopter with an average amount of dog experience. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted, with tail wagging and ears back. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft, soft and loose body, mouth closed, tail wag, ears back. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft, a bit distracted, attempts to mount. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are back. Squeeze 2: 2. Dog gently places his open mouth over the Assessor’s hand without applying pressure. Toy: 1. Minimal interest in Toy, briefly interested, then relinquishes easily.
