03/15/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Jason came into our center as a severely matted stray so behaviors in the home are unknown. He was nervous, growling, and trying to bite during his initial medical exam. Jason was groomed and appears to tolerate more handling than before, but is still uncomfortable and will growl and snap. He walked nicely on leash for his relief walk, no pulling. Jason was easy to collar for his SAFER assessment by moving slowly, leaned into assessor and allowed some handling. However, during Look item, Jason growled/snapped and attempted to bite. Due to this, the remaining tactile portions of the assessment were skipped. Jason showed no interest in Toy. When off leash with other dogs, Jason is polite and often interacts with other dogs. He will attempt to mount at times and is persistent after correction. Due to Jason’s various attempts at biting/snapping, he must be placed with a New Hope partner. Jason would do best in a calm, quiet, structured environment so he can relax and know what to expect. He must also continue to have regularly scheduled professional grooming appointments at a veterinarian’s office due to his reactivity (approximately every 8-10 weeks) to keep his coat from becoming matted and uncomfortable. Look: 5. Dog freezes and/or growls or tries to bite. Toy 1: No interest.
03/05/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
When off leash with other dogs, Jason is polite and often interacts with other dogs. He will attempt to mount at times and is persistent after correction. 3/9 update Jason continues to be sexually motivated and slow to take correction from human handlers. 3/11 update Jason continues to be difficult to collar by human handlers. Once in the yard he is mostly following the female dog, attempting to mount. 3/12 update Jason continues to mount a male dog, however he does not correct and is tolerant of being mounted. Jason engaged in brief running play with a male puppy. 3/15 update Jason did not engage in any play today, he offered a disproportionate correction when greeted by a familiar dog.
