12/14/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: N/A Unaltered, Stray Other notes: Upon intake Jamal appeared fearful and was growling. SAFER ASSESSMENT: Summary: The behavior department believes that Jamal is not an appropriate candidate for SAFER at this time as he actively avoids any form of interaction and will display all appropriate warning signals. Jamal was nervous/tense in the assessment room, he would whine and pull away from the assessor when trying to coax him. Due to the behaviors observed, and out of concern for his stress level, we do not feel it is appropriate to perform a handling assessment at this time. PLAYGROUP: When introduced off leash to other dogs in the care center, Jamal is defensive. He hard barks at the greeter dog, then backs away. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 12/11/16 During his initial medical exam Jamal appeared fearful, he had a tucked tail and flinched when touched. ENERGY LEVEL: RECOMMENDATIONS: New Hope Only _X_No children (under 13) _X_Place with a New Hope partner Potential challenges: _X_Fearful/potential for defensive aggression (Jamal is extremely nervous around strangers and can be difficult to handle. Jamal displays clear signs of discomfort and it is important to respect those signs and to help Jamal gain comfort and confidence in order to avoid escalation.)
