10/31/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: N/A Altered, Stray Other notes: Upon intake he was growling and he did not allow staff to collar him SAFER ASSESSMENT: 10/31/16 Toy: 1. Minimal interest, dog sniffs toy. Summary: When Assessor approached Jake became whale eyed, tail high and flagging, growling. The behavior department believes Jake is not an appropriate candidate for a SAFER assessment at this time. PLAYGROUP: Jake was brought in as a stray so his past behavior around other dogs is unknown. When off leash at the Care Center, Jake is initially nervous, raised hackles with tail high and flagging. He exchanges brief sniffs but avoids the helper dog until the end of the session. He then stiffly, but with bounce, solicits a very brief running chase bout. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 10/20/16 During his initial medical exam Jake appeared anxious and began growl/snap upon handling. ENERGY LEVEL: RECOMMENDATIONS: New Hope Only _X_No children (under 13)(See potential challenges) _X_Place with a New Hope partner (Jake has attempted to snap multiple times during his stay at our care centers, for this reason, we believe Jake would benefit best from placement with a New Hope rescue group who can further assess this behavior in a stable environment.) Potential challenges: _X_Fearful/potential for defensive aggression (Jake has displayed fearful/defensive behavior during his stay at our care centers, tolerating very minimal handling; any form of direct touch may result in a fearful bite. It is recommended that Jake be allowed a proper time to decompress to aid in acclimating him to a new environment. Force-free, reward based training is advised when introducing/exposing Jake to new and unfamiliar situations.)
