MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: Date of initial9/8/2017 During her initial medical exam, Jade allowed handling, high energy. ENERGY LEVEL: Owner describes Jade as having a high activity level which matches what we have seen in the care center. She will require daily mental and physical activity to keep her engaged and exercised.
RECOMMENDATIONS: New Hope _X_No young children (under 5) – Due to Jade’s anxiety level, we feel she may do best in a home without young children. Older, dog savvy children can be considered pending an in -depth interaction. _X_ – New Hope partner- Jade is not acclimating well to the kennel environment, anxious and beginning to leash bite. we recommend placement with a New Hope partner who can provide force free behavior modification to address the dog reactivity and any underlying anxiety. _X_Single-pet home – Jade has shown reactivity toward other dogs and needs to be the only resident pet. _X_Recommend no dog parks – Due to Jade’s reactivity to other dogs we recommend no dog parks. Potential challenges: _X_Anxiety – Jade has shown some signs of potential anxiety in the care center, panting, whining, and focused on exit during SAFER and on walks. This may be due to current stressful environment as owner reports inside the home she is calm and low to medium energy. _X_Strength/leash pulling – Owner reports Jade pulls hard on leash. Her adopter must be prepared and able to handle a dog of this size and strength. It is recommended that she be walked on a front clip harness or head halter, which helps diminish her strength through leverage, and that Jade be trained using postiive reinforcement, reward based training to not pull on leash.
