08/17/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
8/17/16 19:10 Basic information: Jackson is a 8 month. old AM Pitbull mix. The Owner got him from a friend as a gift; she has owned Jackson for over 4 months. The owner surrendered Jackson because Jackson is too active for her. Jackson has never been taken to a vet. Socialization: Around strangers Jackson is friendly and very playful. Jackson has not lived with children but he is relaxed and playful around children and adults he does not know. Jackson has never bitten anyone. Behavior: The owner stats that Jackson is not bothered when some moves his food or treats while he is eating, when someone takes her toys away or when someone disturbs her while sleeping. Jackson likes to be brushed and given bathes but has never had his nails trimmed. When an unfamiliar person or animal approaches a family member or his home he approaches them in a friendly manor. The owner does not know how Jackson is around loud noises such as storms or fireworks. For a new family to know: The owner describes Jackson as friendly, affectionate and playful with a very high activity level. His favorite activity is to play fetch with his owner. In the home Jackson tends to follow the owner around the house and is kept mainly indoors. Jackson sleeps in the floor of the bedroom on a dog bed. Jackson was fed Pedigree dry dog food twice a day. He is house trained and has never had an accident in the home, when outside he goes to the bathroom on or around trees and grass. Jackson knows the commands “sit “and “down”. For exercise Jackson is used to brisk walks on the leash and twice a day and does pull on the leash when excited. Behavior during intake: Jackson was relaxed with lose body, he allowed us to scan (-), collared and placing in dog kennel.
08/21/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Look up “goofball” in Webster’s dictionary and I’m pretty sure you’ll find a photo of Jackson’s grinning mug right next to it. Just on seeing him, before he’s even done a thing, you can’t help but break into a smile. 8 months old with the floppiest of ears, the biggest of smiles, and a black button nose splashed artfully with pink (maybe by Pollock?), Jackson is head to toe adorable. Oh and speaking of toes! As if a face like that wasn’t enough, Jackson also sports perfectly turned-out front “feets.” (Are you smiling yet?) Jackson is quiet in his kennel and easily leashed and we’re quickly on our way to the park. He trots along right in front of me with a bouncy, easy gait and handles his business straight away. The sky starts to look ominous so we return for some shelter and by “shelter” I mean endless, wiggly snuggles. The moment I plop down to the ground I have floppy ears in my lap, a painted nose in my hand, and turned-out front feets…everywhere. As I give him a good butt scratch (his “spot” as it happens) he lends me a helping paw by scratching right along with me. Now Jackson’s smiling, I’m laughing, and neither of us are noticing the fat raindrops falling all around us. Look up “goofball” in the dictionary and see Jackson’s photo right beside it. Then scroll down one from “G” to “H” and see the word “Home.” The two belong together. Jackson is waiting in adoptions at Manhattan’s ACC.
08/19/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Jackson pulls a bit on the leash. He was excited but very interested in interacting with handler during assessment – jumped up, mouthy (moderate). Jackson was excited during some of the handling items, but had soft body language. Jackson was excitable grabbing at the leash, jumpy, mouthy (moderate) but playful while playing tag. He became mouthy during the squeeze item with a moderate pressure. Jackson was not interested in toys Jackson was surrender to us. According to his previous owner describes Jackson as friendly, affectionate and playful with a very high activity level. Around strangers Jackson is friendly and very playful. Jackson has not lived with children but he is relaxed and playful around children and adults he does not know. The owner stats that Jackson is not bothered when some moves his food or treats while he is eating, when someone takes her toys away. The behavior department feels that he can go to an experience adopter who can follow up on this behavior. We also recommend a home without young children; older children can be considered pending interaction. Look: 3. Dog jumps on the Assessor, consistently rubs his shoulder on the Assessor, and will not allow Assessor to conduct the assessment. Sensitivity: 2. Dog displays high energy and movement, but it is directed toward getting closer to the Assessor. His body is soft, likely panting, may jump up between attempts to lick Assessor. Tag: 2. Follows at end of leash, body soft, jumpy but became mouthy at the end of the game Squeeze 1/2: 2. Dog gently places his open mouth over the Assessor’s hand with a moderate pressure. Toy: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. He does not place his body between you and the toy. Dog-to-dog: When introduced off leash to another dog in the care center, Jackson plays exuberantly. He runs, jumps, and wrestles during play. Jackson arrived into our care as an owner surrender, however the previous owner does not cite any history aroun dogs, and it is unknown how his/her behavior will translate into a home setting. The behavior team feels that Jackson could potentially be adopted to a home with another playful dog pending a successful pre adoption interaction.
