I am a male tricolor eng foxhound and beagle mix. The shelter thinks I am about 2 YEARS old.
I came in the shelter as a OWNER SUR on 12/23/2015 from NY 10469, owner surrender reason stated was MOVE2PRIVA.

12/23/15 17:21 Jack is an approx 2 year old Beagle mix. He is being surrendered because the owner is moving to another state and cannot take Jack with her. She recieved Jack from a neighbor 6 months ago. He has not been to the vet and he has no known health issues. Socialization The owner said that Jack is shy around strangers. She lives in a very quiet neighborhood and says that he does not interact with people as much as he should. Jack barks when strangers approach the owner or family members. He barks when he sees other dogs. The owner has not had him interact with other dogs or cats. He lived in a home with the owner and her two teenage sons and he plays exuberantly with them. He has not bitten anyone or any other animal. Behavior Jack was walked twice a day. He pulls lightly on the leash. He is not bothered when taking his food bowl, toys, or treats away. He will struggle during bathtime but likes to be brushed. He does not mind being pushed off the furniture or restrained. For a new family to know The owner described Jack as anxious, shy, excitable, and independent. She alo described him as playful, talkative, affectionate, and excitable with her and her children. Jack had a few toys but will destroy squeaky ones. He has been mostly kept indoors. He was fed Pedigree dry dog food. When left alone in the home, he will bark for a few minutes then he will relax and remain silent. Behavior during intake Jack barked upon intake. He howled at another dog in the lobby and barked when a staff member approached to scan. Jack did not allow staff to scan, collar or leash. He barked and lunged at the staff. The owners son helped with the handling process. He scanned(-), collared, and leashed him. I used the squeaky toy to get his attention while I took his photographs. The owners son then transferred Jack into a kennel.

Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Jack came into our center as an owner surrender due to relocation issues, family moving. It is reported Jack is shy around strangers, barking if they approach owner or family member. Owner reports Jack barks if he sees other dogs, but he has not interacted with any dogs or cats per owner. Owner reports Jack lived with two teenagers, plays exuberantly with them. It is reported Jack is not bothered if you touch or take away his food, treats, or toys, but may destroy squeaky toys as part of playing. Jack barked upon intake. He howled at another dog in the lobby and barked when a staff member approached him to scan for microchip. He did not allow staff to scan, collar, or leash him, owner had to place in kennel. Jack pulled slightly on leash during his relief walk. He was friendly and excitable upon entering SAFER assessment room. He jumped up to lick assessor’s face during Look item, tail wagging. Jack leaned into assessor during Sensitivity item, body soft, tail wagging, jumping up affectionately on assessor at end of item. He followed at the end of the leash for Tag game, tail wagging, jumping up playfully at end. Jack gently pulled his paw back on both Squeeze attempts. He playfully engaged with Toy, keeping a firm grip with loose body and wagging tail. When off leash with other dogs, Jack approaches and sniffs the female helper dog. He begins to bark, growl and follow when she attempts to move away. The Behavior Team feels Jack would do best with an Experienced adopter. He may benefit from obedience classes to learn leash manners as well as not to jump up. Look: 1. Dog jumps up to lick the Assessor’s face with tail wagging, ears back and eyes averted. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft, soft and loose body, open mouth pant, tail wag. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft, jumps up at end. Squeeze 1 / 2:1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Toy 1: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. He does not place his body between you and the toy, tail wag. Dog-dog: When off leash with other dogs, Jack approaches and sniffs the female helper dog. He begins to bark, growl and follow when she attempts to move away.

When off leash with other dogs, Jack approaches and sniffs the female helper dog. He begins to bark, growl and follow when she attempts to move away. Jack re-approaches and attempts to posture to mount the helper dog. 12/29 update: Jack is forward upon introduction, standing tall and immediately attempting to mount. When offered correction he growls and does not cease attempting to mount. 12/31 update: Jack offers bows and a few bounce toward the other dog, but when she is not interested he attempts to mount her.
