10/12/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Ivy is with us as her former owner became too ill to care for her dog. It must be so tough on her as she seems to have been quite a beloved pet, maybe a little too sheltered from the outside world. Ivy, indeed, is well groomed, dressed without a flaw, elegant and girly. She seeks human company, and although her kennel mates chomp heartily their rawhide, she leaves hers to come to her door and salute me, a person she just met the day before. Ivy seems to know what really matters. Ivy is leashed easily. She is happy to be in the street, does her business at once and starts on a speedy walk. She sits very nicely on command and takes politely treats from my hand. She does not mind at all the eye of my camera, and even at the end of the session, offers a wide smile. Ivy likes caresses and a “conversation”. Roughness, squeaks and pushy moves are not her cup of tea…and although gently playful, Ivy prefers soft moves and actions. Her former owner reports that Ivy is well mannered, of low activity level, does not bark, is free of handling issues, house trained and does not destroy things in her house. She is really a very nice gal who would do wonderfully well with mature person or an experienced family who will lift her veil of shyness. Lovely Ivy is at the Manhattan Care Center. She so would love to be your friend. Come and meet her soon.

MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 10/7/2016 During her initial medical examination, Ivy readily allowed all handling. ENERGY LEVEL: RECOMMENDATIONS: Experience _X_No young children (under 5) (See potential challenges) Potential challenges: _X_Fearful/potential for defensive aggression (Ivy, though seemingly human-social, has been observed to display some fearful/cautious behavior upon sudden movements/loud noises, offering appropriate warning noting her uncomfortability; whale eyed, freezing. For this reason, we advise against a home with young children. A period of decompression is advised before introduction/exposure to new and unfamiliar situations; we recommend using only force-free, reward based training.)
