The owner mentioned Ivory has been introduced to small dogs in the neighborhood and she is gentle and sniffs them politely. The owner describes Ivory as friendly, playful and affectionate. It was reported by the owner Ivory is partially house-trained and needs more work, she also has a high activity level. At intake it was reported Ivory was excitable and playful towards the counselors, she allowed all handling. During SAFER Ivory came into the assessment room loose and wiggly, she was friendly and playful towards the assessor. She allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Ivory joins the game during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment Ivory was easy to handle when engaged with the item. Ivory appears to be sociable, and did not display any behaviors concerns, so the department feels she can be suitable for an “Average” adopter. Look: 1. Dog leans forward or jumps up to lick the Assessor’s face with tail wagging, ears back and eyes averted. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Or dog indicates play with huffing, soft ‘popping’ of the body, etc. Dog jumps on Assessor once play begins. Squeeze 1 & 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Toy: 1. Dog-dog: When off leash at the care center, Ivory approaches the gate somewhat nervous with a low head and slightly tucked posture but once inside the pen she solicits play, briefly with bows, spins and she throws her body at the helper dog. Her body remains tense throughout the interaction but she ebbs back and forth between soliciting play and wandering the pen.

Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Ivory’s previous owner reported that she has been around small dogs and greets them gently and politely. When off leash at the care center, Ivory solicits high energy, novice play with male and female dogs. She is able to listen to handler interruptions and engages in more appropriate play. With further playgroup sessions, her play style has become smoother. The Behavior Department recommends that Ivory be placed in a home with dogs that are comfortable with her high energy play style and that a dog-dog interaction is conducted to ensure compatibility. 9/18: Ivory approaches the gate somewhat nervous with a low head and slightly tucked posture but once inside the pen she solicits play, briefly with bows, spins and she throws her body at the helper dog. Her body remains tense throughout the interaction but she ebbs back and forth between soliciting play and wandering the pen. 9/23: Ivory engages in novice, high energy play and requires handler interruptions to decrease her arousal level. She is able to explore the pen, before soliciting her high energy play again. 9/24: Ivory continues to display the high energy play when initially enter the pen but is able to listen to handler interruptions and engages in more appropriate play.
