09/07/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
09/07/16 14:24 Basic Information Italia is an approximate 5 year old American Pitt Bull terrier who is being surrendered as a stray. Finder stated a friend gave her to him but his father would not allow her in his house. Finder stated she never showed any signs of aggression. She would approach other dogs during walks in a relaxed manner. Behavior during Intake Italia was relaxed during the intake procedure. She would lay down frequently. She tolerated all handling. The leash would sometimes go in between her legs and I was able to lift her leg without any reaction from her. She did not show any signs of aggression during intake. She ate treats from my hand. She laid down on her back and tolerated belly rubs.
09/11/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Quiet, unassuming little Italia may not top anyones travel ‘bucket list’ but she’s as beautiful as a fresco, as delicious as a pizza and just like any good Italian Mama, Italia wants only the best in life for those she loves and in her mind (and yours once you meet her) the best is, of course, Italia! She’s more of a ‘people dog’ than a ‘dog’s dog’ but passes the other pups kennels with ease and walks very nicely on leash, exploring all round and taking care of her business promptly once we hit the yard. She can be a teensy bit hand-shy at first but truly adores people and after snuggles, treats, sniffing and returning her to her kennel, she waits with her face pressed to the door in hopes I’ll weaken and take her out for a another stroll or at least offer more of the tasty beef liver cubes she can’t get enough of. Humble and heartbreaking, Italia is a beauty inside and out and for the low price of an adoption fee you can enjoy her magic all through the seasons and drink in her beauty every day for the rest of your life…sounds like a bargain to me!
09/09/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Italia came to the care center as a stray so her behavior in a home is unknown. Upon intake, she was relaxed and tolerated a handling. She pulled a bit in the assessment room and appeared calm and friendly. During Look she held the assessor’s gaze, mouth closed, body soft. Her body was soft for Sensitivity, mouth closed, tail wagging. She became over aroused during Tag, biting the leash and not relinquishing it. Once she released and it was difficult for her to settle. She displayed minimal interest in the Toy, sniffing it. After the assessment, Italia was very social and affectionate. Due to her heightened arousal level during Tag, the Behavior Team believes Italia would be most appropriate for an experienced adult home only. Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is wagging, body soft. Tag: 3. Dog responds with his tail high, ears forward, mouth likely closed for at least half of the assessment. item, body stiff and body checks the Assessor. Dog is often focused on other stimuli in the room. Toy: 1. Minimal interest in Toy, dog sniffs toy.
09/08/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
09/08/16: Italia arrived into our care as a stray, so there is no available history of previous interaction with other dogs. When introduced off leash to another dog in the care center, Italia is avoidant and corrects forward approach. The behavior team feels that Italia would be most comfortable as the only resident dog in a new home, before following up on her behavior around them outside the care center environment.
