08/23/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: None 8/21/17 Unaltered Female, Stray Other notes: SAFER ASSESSMENT: 8/23/17 Look:2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity:1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag:1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Or dog indicates play with huffing, soft ‘popping’ of the body, etc. Dog jumps on Assessor once play begins. Squeeze 1& 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Toy: 1. Minimal interest in toy, dog smells, then turns away. Summary: Irene was friendly and social towards the assessor. PLAYGROUP: When off leash at the Care Center, Irene is initially nervous-low body and hyper-salivates, but as the session continues she softens up and begins to socialize in a group setting. She will tolerate sexually motivated behavior to a degree but will correct when the other dog becomes persistent. Irene was brought in as a stray so her past behavior with other dogs is unknown. The Behavior Department recommends that Irene be placed in a hope with a well-socialized dog that is respectful and match her calm demeanor. INTAKE BEHAVIOR 8/21/17: Upon intake Irene was a bit nervous, she allowed some petting and limited handling. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 8/22/17: During her medical examination, Irene was very friendly and loose, she allowed all handling. ENERGY LEVEL: We have no history on Irene so we cannot be certain of her behavior in a home environment. However, she is a young, enthusiastic, social dog who will need daily mental and physical activity to keep her engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in additional to physical exercise, to positively direct her energy and enthusiasm. RECOMMENDATIONS: Average (suitable for an adopter with an average amount of dog experience)
08/22/2017 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
When off leash at the Care Center, Irene is initially nervous-low body and hyper-salivates, but as the session continues she softens up and begins to socialize in a group setting. 8/22: Irene enters the pen with a low body and tail, and begins to hyper-salivate. She exchanges brief sniffs before exploring the pens. She keeps to herself most of the session. 8/23: Irene takes time to socialize in a group setting but she eventually displays brief bouts of gentle play. She tolerates, to some extent, an anxious sexually motivated male’s behavior, but eventually corrects him when he is persistent. She allows another female repeatedly muzzle lick her and is respectful around calmer dogs. 8/24: Irene corrects face to face greets, but will attempt to engage in gentle play. When the player’s energy increases to a level that she is uncomfortable with, she offers stronger corrections. 9/01: Irene continues to attempt to solicit gentle play with a group of females. When her solicitations are not reciprocated, she explores the area.
