01/25/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: None 1/23/17 Neutered, Stray SAFER ASSESSMENT: 1/25/17 Summary: Inchworm bared teeth and growled while attempting to collar him in the assessment. The assessment was not conducted. PLAYGROUP: When introduced off leash to other dogs in the care center, Inchworm avoids and mostly keeps to himself. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 1/23/17 During his initial medical exam, Inchworm was very tense, growled, and snapped. ENERGY LEVEL: We have no history on Inchworm so we cannot be certain of his/her behavior in a home environment. In the shelter Inchworm is fearful and shut down so his energy level is not accurately seen. Once in a stable home environment, Ichworm’s energy level should be re evaluated. RECOMMENDATIONS: New Hope Only __No children (under 13): Due to how uncomfortable Inchworm is currently with touch and novel stimuli, we feel that an adult-only home would be most beneficial at this time. _X_Place with a New Hope partner: Inchworm has not acclimated well to the kennel environment and has allowed only minimal handling since intake. We recommend placement with a New Hope partner who can provide any necessary behavior modification (force-free, positive reinforcement-based) and re-evaluate behavior in a stable home environment before placement into a permanent home. Potential challenges: _X_Fearful/potential for defensive aggression (Inchworm has growled and snapped at people attempting to touch him during his time at the care center, making contact with one person’s hand but not breaking skin. Guidance from a professional trainer/behaviorist is recommended to assess behavior after decompression in a new home environment. Force-free, reward based training is advised when introducing or exposing Inchworm to new and unfamiliar situations.)
01/24/2017 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
