A volunteer writes:
How do you spell fun? J-A-C-K-S! This playful teenager is such a bouncy, happy dude and he’s up for everything from smooching on a bench to playing tug-o-war in the yard to jogging through the park–name your game and Jacks will be there. Gifted to his former owner as a baby, Jacks didn’t stay a tiny bundle of joy for long and once his need for exercise and enrichment outstripped his person’s schedule he was ‘re-gifted’ to the Care Center. Now he’s the perfect present for some lucky adopter to give themselves! Friendly and outgoing, Jacks is used to spending time with children from 7-14 years old and while he sometimes doesn’t realize his own strength, we’re told he’s gentle yet exuberant when he plays with them. His standard greeting for strangers (though everyone’s an instant friend) is to bark hello and jump up for a hug and he’s certainly a pro when it comes to snuggles, doling out lots of tail wags and the best sloppy ear kisses ever. Though he gets excited over his toys and may even lightly mouth an arm, Jacks has a naturally soft and affectionate nature that makes spending time with him an absolute joy. He play growls and bobs away with the tennis ball at first but comes back and nudges it into my side to let me know he’s just joshing with me and once up on the bench is happy to surrender it right from his mouth for another throw. A strong but responsive leash walker and seemingly house trained, Jacks passes other dogs in the street with polite tail wags and a wiggly body and he’s the most enthusiastic greeter in play group, barking up a storm whenever a new dog appears outside the gate. A generous boy who’s happy to share his food or toys, Jacks would love to find a home with plenty of both and a heapin’ helpin’ of snuggle time on the side. Already neutered and learning his commands (sit, stay and come), Jacks is a superstar in training and with an active, dog-savvy new family he is going to shine shine shine.
PROFILE :
Basic Info:
Jacks A1068687 is a 1yr & 6month old neutered male white AMPBT mix who was given to the owner as a gift from a family member as a tiny pup & is being surrendered due to no time. Jacks was last seen by a veterinarian in 2015 and currently has no known health issues.
Socialization:
Around strangers Jacks is friendly/outgoing. He’s spent time with children ages 7-14yrs old and he was gentle, exuberant (during play he doesn’t know his strength at times) & very playful with them also with the adult in the home. Jacks hasn’t lived with other animals but briefly spent time with a cat where he nibbled on their tail (in curiosity- did not break skin or bleed) and when he spots a dog on the street he barks excitedly. Jacks has never bitten/scratched any person or animal.
Behavior:
Jacks is a very hyper boy. During storms/fireworks he’ll sleep through them. Jacks isn’t bothered by the following: having his food/food bowl, toys/treats touched/moved, being brushed or being disturbed while sleeping/resting. Jacks hasn’t had his nails trimmed. During baths Jacks is very hyper and excited (moves around a lot, loves the water). If someone approaches the home/family member he’ll bark & jump on them to greet them & play.
For A New Family to Know:
Jacks is described as friendly, affectionate, playful, confident, & excitable with a very high activity level. The owner likes how friendly he is. Jacks enjoys playing with ball, squeaky, rope toys (will chew on them, attempted to do so with my leash, but responded to correction) and games of fetch & tug.  He’s mostly an indoor only dog who sleeps anywhere & is walked 2-4x a day where he pulls strongly on his leash at times. Jacks eats dry dog Pedigree food 2x a day and likes any kind of dog treats. Jacks’ known commands are “sit”, “stay” & “come” that he doesn’t always listen to.
BEHAVIOR :
Jacks was surrender to us. Jacks previous owner described him as friendly, affectionate, playful, confident, & excitable with a very high activity level. The owner likes how friendly he is. Jacks enjoys playing with ball, squeaky, rope toys (will chew on them, attempted to do so with my leash, but responded to correction) and games of fetch & tug. Around strangers Jacks is friendly and outgoing. He’s spent time with children ages 7-14yrs old and he was gentle, exuberant (during play he doesn’t know his strength at times) very playful with them also with the adult in the home. He doesn’t mind having his food, treats or toys been moved or touched”. Jacks is a very active and jumpy dog. He pulls hard on the leash also became a bit over arousal grabbing at the leash and was a bit difficult to distract him. Jacks is slow to de-escalate and sometimes requires intervention to help redirect.  The behavior department feels that he may do best with an experienced adopter who can follow up on this behavior in a more stable environment and can provide any necessary behavior modification. We also recommend a home without young children; older children can be considered pending interaction.
Look: 3. Dog jumps on the Assessor, consistently rubs his shoulder on the Assessor, and will not allow Assessor to conduct the assessment.
Sensitivity: 2. Dog repeatedly turns toward the Assessor’s hand, with loose body and open mouth, mouths the hand, but does not apply pressure and dog licks hands while lips are long.
Tag: 3. Dog responds with her tail high, ears forward, mouth likely closed for at least half of the assessment item, body stiff and body checks the Assessor. Dog is often focused on other stimuli in the room.
Squeeze 1:  1. Dog gently pulls back his paw.
Squeeze2:  1. Dog gently  pulls back his paw.
Toy 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. He does not place her body between you and the toy.
Group: Both on a leash and when off-leash, through the gate Jacks incessantly barks at other dogs. Although he does not have a stiff body, he is difficult to distract and unable to focus otherwise; for this reason he is muzzled for his interaction. He is distracted by the muzzle but will occasionally run along side the helper dog (while scratching at the muzzle). He stops scratching at the muzzle a few times to approach the helper dog to sniff, he is not stiff and has a gentle wag.
