12/14/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
12/14/16 14:16 Basic Information: Ilya is a 13 year unaltered male Siberian Husky. His owner got him from a pet store since he was a puppy. Ilya’s owner sadly had no time for him anymore as family members had allergies. He has no prior health issues or injuries that the owner is aware of. His last visit to the veterinarian was over 1 year ago. Socialization: Around strangers he is friendly and outgoing and lets people pet him. He has not lived with any children and/or has not spent time with any children, so his play behavior is unknown. He plays exuberantly with adults. He has not lived with any dogs or cats, but has been to the dog park and did well there according to owner. The other animal he lived with a snake but did not have any contact with it. There is not bite history on a person or another animal according to owner. Behavior: Owner stated that there are no behavioral issues he is concerned about. During storms/fireworks he hides from fear. Touching food bowl and trimming nails behavior is unknown. Isn’t bothered by: taking bones away, taking toy away, holding or restraining him, unfamiliar approaches to house or family member. Owner struggles with giving a bath, brushing coat. For New Family: Owner described him as playful and pushy. Activity level is high. Owner’s favorite thing is dog is super fluffy. Loves going to parks. When owner is home, dog tends to stay in favorite spot. Likes stuffed&squeaky toys, and play chase. Kept mostly indoors and ate dry food. Favorite treats are pig ears, peanut butter. He is very housetrained and goes on cement. When left alone in the house he is well-behaved. Knows “sit” command. For exercise owner took him on slow walks on leash, but he pulls very hard on leash and has never been off leash. Behavior upon intake. Ilya was not receptive to any handling, growled at counselor and was anxious. Counselor was able to take photo and scan but not able to collar.
12/17/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Ilya wants to know what the fuss is all about…so it’s cold…..”this is my kind of weather”, he says! Ilya was surrendered to our care as his family, with whom he lived all his life, no longer has time for him. He’s been gorgeously cared for, his coat lush and silky, he’s housetrained, is nice on leash, clearly has had many photos taken as he posed for my camera like a pro, smiling nicely and making soft eye contact. We’re told Ilya hides during storms and fireworks, likes to play chase, loves toys, his favorite treats are pig ears and peanut butter, is well behaved when left home alone, and is playful. I loved my time with Ilya and would never guess his ‘senior’ status as he’s so spry and friendly. He showed off his sit, takes treats gently, is affectionate, alert, sweet and friendly on his terms. He waited patiently while I took pictures of another dog, wagging his tail when I returned. Ilya has earned the right to spend his retirement years playing, loving, taking nice walks, napping – or simply whatever it is he wants to do. He sometimes doesn’t like his neck being touched but as a senior, in my opinion he’s earned the right to have things his way. Come meet our cold weather fellow today – he’ll warm your heart right away.
