According to Ike’s previous owner, Ike has lived with another female dog who is his litter mate. Around her he is respectful and gentle, however he gets tense whenever other dogs try to approach him. The Behavior Department recommends that Ike Be the only resident dog at this time.
2/14: Ike displays a stiff posture, huffs then begins to growl, when the novel female dog greets him at the gate. He walks away when she moves away from the gate, and keeps his distance from the gate door. Recommendations: Single-pet home, Recommend no dog parks
Recommendations comments:
_X_ Single-pet home/Recommend no dog parks: Due to the concerning behaviors that Ike has shown during playgroup (see GROUPBEHAVIOR SUMMARY), we feel that Ike should not visit dog parks and be the only resident dog. The Behavior Department recommends that he be socialized in a more controlled setting until his behavior towards other dogs can be further addressed. Reward-based, force-free training can be utilized to help Ike associate dogs with things he enjoys like toys or treats.
