02/02/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Icy came in as a stray, so her past behaviors in a home are unknown. During SAFER icy came into the assessment room loose and wiggly, she was friendly and affectionate towards the assessor, allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Icy joins the game during the tag interaction and during the resources portion of the assessment Icy was easy to handle when engaged with the item. When off leash with other dogs, Icy greets at the gate with a very still and stiff posture, a high tail and ears in a neutral position. After several seconds, she begins to hard bark at the helper dog. Due to her behavior, Icy is muzzled before being allowed to interact off leash with the other dog. Once inside the pen, Icy approaches the other dog slowing but leaps onto the dog’s back while growling. The interaction was ended due concerns for the behavior Icy was displaying. The behavior department feels she can be suitable for an experience adopter and we recommend being the only dog in the house hold. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. Her ears are back, her tail is down, and she has a relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft, soft and loose body, open mouth. Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Or dog indicates play with huffing, soft ‘popping’ of the body, etc. Dog jumps on Assessor once play begins. Squeeze 1 & 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Toy: 1. Minimal interest in toy, dog smells, then turns away. Dog-dog: When off leash with other dogs, Icy greets at the gate with a very still and stiff posture, a high tail and ears in a neutral position. After several seconds, she begins to hard bark at the helper dog. Due to her behavior, Icy is muzzled before being allowed to interact off leash with the other dog.
