Hunter has lived in a home with an adult and 1 teenager. Hunter enjoys petting but spends more time to him. Hunter was tolerant of the 6 year old relatives that would visit. He would sniff at them but once they would attempt to pet him, Hunter would growl at them and walk away. When he notices other dogs outside, he will bark and attempt to approach them. Hunter will sniff at them and allow the other dog to sniff him. BEHAVIOR Hunter may follow his owner around the home and stay near his owner’s feet. When he does want attention, he will paw at his owner’s legs. Hunter will growl at his owner if he is approached while eating. He doesn’t climb onto the furniture in the home. He is bathed at least 1x a month. Once he realizes the water is running he will attempt to run off but will remain seated in the tub once he is inside. Hunter is restricted to one area of the home when left alone because he will mark areas in the home. When there are guest in the home, he will jump up on them and play. When he is approached by children or strangers on the street he will allow them to pet him. 06/13/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Hunter came into our center as an owner surrender on 6/11/2016. It is reported he has lived with one adult and one teenager, enjoys petting at times but mostly keeps to himself. Hunter would sniff a visiting 6 year old family member, but would growl if child attempted to pet him. Owner reports Hunter will growl if approached while eating. Hunter is reportedly restricted to one area of the home when left alone because he will mark areas in the home. Owner states Hunter is fearful of moving mops, will bark and run to his corner. Hunter was a bit difficult to take out of kennel, growling and staying towards the back, but once on leash he softened and walked well. He allowed his head to be cupped in assessor’s hands during Look item, relaxed and neutral. He lip licked during positioning for Sensitivity item, once positioned he accepted the touch, head a bit low, mouth closed. Hunter initially followed at end of leash for Tag game, but became very playful towards end of game, jumping and dancing around. He did not pull his paw back on both Squeeze attempts. Hunter engaged with Toy, took it away, body not stiff. When off leash with other dogs, Hunter mostly keeps to himself. The Behavior Team feels Hunter would do best with an Experienced adopter that does not have children. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. His ears are back, his tail is down, and he has a relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, his tail is between his legs, mouth closed, head a bit low, lip lick. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft, becomes very playful towards end of game Squeeze 1 / 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are relaxed Toy 1: 2. Dog takes toy away, keeps a firm hold, body not stiff Dog-dog: When off leash with other dogs, Hunter mostly keeps to himself.
