09/22/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Although Hummus seemed a bit nervous when she first came into our care as a stray (and who wouldn’t be! A new place is always scary when you’re used to being on the run), she now has a calm, chill, and sweet demeanor. She is so lovely to look at and so friendly and affectionate that the last time I walked her, several people came up to me on the street to ask about her (and hopefully they’re going to adopt her! But if they haven’t yet, reader, you might be the lucky one!). They said they loved her smooth coat, floppy ears, and sweet disposition. Hummus takes treats nicely, seems housetrained, and loves to give kisses and say hello to everyone she says (although she does get excited about people and try to jump up to reach them better, so could use a little basic training in that department). It’s also possible that Hummus is good with cats, considering she came in with one.

Hummus came into the Care Center as a stray, so his past behaviors in a home are unknown. Behavior during intake: Hummus was playful and friendly, she allowed all handling by the counselor. During SAFER Hummus came into the assessment room wary of her surroundings and she had a tense body posture when interacting with the assessor, she allowed all handling items to be conducted but was fearful and tense throughout the assessment. Hummus was fearful and her body was low as she followed the assessor during the tag interaction, and during the resource portion of the assessment. Humus maintained a fearful body posture through the assessment, so the department feels she can be suitable for an “Experienced’ adopter. Look: 1. Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Hummus was surrendered as a stray so her past behavior around dogs is unknown. When off leash with dogs at the Care Center, Hummus displays soft body language when greeting male and female dogs. She is tolerant of dogs that continually greet her but mostly seeks handler interaction as she explores the pen. When a dog solicits play, Hummus becomes uncomfortable and offers correction. After the play solicitation, Hummus follows the dog around the pen displaying assertive posturing. She is able to listen to handler interruptions and continues to explore the pen.
