09/25/2017 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Can you imagine getting to start each day by busting out your best boxing announcer voice and declaring “Let’s get ready to Humble!!!”? And by “Humble” I mean something far from rumbling in a ring, but rather hanging out with this most wonderful gent! He has a wiggle like a puppy and one of his eyes sort of strays to the side sometimes (it’s adorable!) and most importantly, he is super sweet and fun! He comes to us because his owner fell on tough times, but it’s clear he loves human attention and definitely had one as a teacher at some point. He seems very housebroken, loves to play with toys, and already knows basic commands (plus he’s so treat motivated that he tries to do them before I can even ask — a completely charming “sit”, “paw”, “down” auto-play!). He is meant to be the light of someone’s life…please come meet him at Brooklyn ACC and see if that might be you!
09/06/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: None 9/3/17 Unaltered male, stray SAFER ASSESSMENT: 9/6/17 Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Squeeze 2:1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Toy 1: No interest. Summary: During the handling assessment Humble was tolerant of handling; however, he was a bit uncomfortable with his head being held. He became tense, and pulled away. PLAYGROUP: Humble was introduced to another male dog today. Initially he greeted him face to face with a neutral posture and then explored the yard. However, after several minutes, Humble returned to the male helper and sniffed his genital area and immediately became stiff, lunged and bark at him. Summary INTAKE BEHAVIOR 9/3/17 Upon intake Humble was very friendly approached the counselor with soft body and alert. He allowed the counselor to collar him and tried mounting the counselor leg a few times, but stopped once removed. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 9/6/17 During the initial examination Humble was nervous, but will allow exam and handling, go slowly ENERGY LEVEL: We have no history on Humble so we cannot be certain of his behavior in a home environment. Humble displays a medium energy level in the care center so we recommend daily mental and physical stimulation as a way to direct his energy and enthusiasm.
RECOMMENDATIONS: Experienced adopter, adult-only home _X_No children (under 13): Due to Humbles response to some of the SAFER handling items, he becomes uncomfortable with handling especially around the face/neck area, for these reasons we advise against a home with small children at this time. Potential challenges: _X_Handling/touch sensitivity: Humble has been noted to become uncomfortable with handling at times, especially when a person is reaching over him. It is important to always go slow and give Humble the option to walk away from any social interaction. Humble should never be forced to approach anything that he is uncomfortable with or to submit to petting or handling. It should always be Humbles choice to approach a new person or thing. Humble may do best in an initially calm and quiet home environment and should be given time to acclimate to his new surroundings.

Initially he greeted him face to face with a neutral posture and then explored the yard. However, after several minutes, Humble returned to the male helper and sniffed his genital area and immediately became stiff, lunged and bark at him. 9/7: In a group of female dogs, Humble is slightly sexually motivated but listens to handler interruptions.
