03/02/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Well helloooo handsome! It’s hard to tell from his photos–mostly because he wants to be as close to the treats as possible–but Hulk is an adorable low-riding meatball with the cutest stubby legs, broad shoulders and blockhead you ever saw. He’s the kind of boy who looks like two dogs in one (think Pittie mixed with Daschund) and admiring smiles follow wherever he goes. Hulk’s favorite past times are socializing with all his two- and four-legged friends, and food, glorious food. He mooches treats gently from my fingers, gives enthusiastic hugs, and walks like a little bulldozer but is easy to handle in harness, taking care of his business along the way. Play time is all about running around, and though he’ll chase after a ball on occasion, he hasn’t yet mastered the nuances of fetching it back again. If you’re looking for an active, dog-friendly companion who loves to be fussed over but has his independent side too, then here’s your chance to get all that in the cutest possible package. Good-natured and very sociable, no muss, no fuss and no guarding–that’s our Hulk! Ask for a date with the chunkiest hunkiest boy at our Manhattan Care Center today, the Incredible Hulk can’t wait to meet you.
02/29/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Hulk came into our center after a member of the public found him tied outside. He was very friendly upon intake and during his initial medical exam, allowing handling all over his body. Hulk was very easy to go in and out of his kennel. He pulled very strongly on leash for his relief walk. He allowed his head to be cupped in assessor’s hands for Look item, eyes averted, tail wagging. Hulk stood still and accepted the touch during Sensitivity item, body soft, mouth open. He was distracted and unresponsive during Tag game, strongly pulling on leash and focused on other stimuli. Hulk pulled his paw back on both Squeeze attempts. He playfully engaged with Toy, keeping a firm grip with Loose, wiggly body. When off leash with other dogs Hulk briefly greets before going off to sniff the yard. He is tolerant of the helper dog jumping on him to solicit, but he does not engage. The Behavior Team feels Hulk would do best with an experienced adopter due to his strength. He would benefit from obedience classes to learn leash manners as well as body awareness and focus. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted, with tail wagging and ears back. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is wagging with relaxed body posture, mouth open, ears back Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, strongly pulling away on leash. He is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1 / 2: 2. Dog pulls back paw. Toy 1: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. He does not place his body between you and the toy. Dog-dog: When off leash with other dogs, Hulk briefly greets but is more interested in sniffing the yard.
02/26/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Hulk has been distracted by scents and surroundings in the yard during off leash interaction. He briefly offers greeting but does not engage when solicited with play. He has not yet been introduced to a male dog while in our care. Hulk arrived as a stray so in-home behaviors with dogs are unknown. The behavior department recommends a pre-adoption interaction for Hulk before placement into a home with another dog. When off leash with other dogs Hulk briefly greets before going off to sniff the yard. He is tolerant of the helper dog jumping on him to solicit, but he does not engage. 2/27 update: Hulk briefly greets but, again, is more interested in sniffing the yard. 3/1 update: Hulk mostly ignores greetin gin favor of sniffing his surroundings.. He becomes a bit sexually motivated after greeting a female but takes correction. 3/2, 3/3 update: Hulk ignores other dogs and roams to sniff the yard.
