09/09/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Hula has displayed concerning behavior during his time in playgroup in the care centers; stiff upon approach/within close proximity to another male/female dog. On one occassion it was noted he low growled at the female dog and once she solicited play, he attempted to mount. Due to these noted concerns, the behavior department believes Hula would benefit best from an experienced adopter who can follow up on this behavior once he is situated in a more stable environment. 9/6 SAFER Assessment Hula was bought into the Care Center on 9/3/16 as a stray, so his past behaviors in a home are unknown. Behavior during intake: Hula was relaxed and allowed all handling from the counselor. During SAFER Hula displayed a relaxed behavior when entering the assessment room he had a loose body posture when interacting with the assessor, he allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Hula was relaxed during the tag interaction, and during the resource portion of the assessment. Hula was easy to handle when engaged with the item. Hula appears to be sociable, and did not display any behavior concerns, so the department feels he can be suitable for an “Average” adopter. Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft, soft and loose body, and open mouth. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft. Squeeze 1/2: 1 Dog gently pulls back his paw. Toy: 1. Minimal interest in Toy, dog licks, then turns away. Playgroup: When off leash at the care center, Hula initially greets with a soft, wiggly body but begins to give low growls and attempts to mount the other dogs flank when she solicits gentle play.
09/04/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Hula was found as a stray, so his previous behavior with other dogs is unknown. When off leash at the Care Center, Hula initially greets with a soft, wiggly body but begins to give low growls and attempts to mount the other dogs flank when she solicits gentle play. When greeting a male dog, Hula begins barking and a muzzle is placed on him. He greets the male dog and allows the male dog to greet him but displays stiff body language. He displays the same stiff body language when interacting with a soft female dog. Due to Hula’s discomfort around other dogs, the Behavior Department recommends that Hula be placed in a home with no other dogs. 9/4: Hula initially greets with a soft, wiggly body but begins to give low growls and attempts to mount the other dogs flank when she solicits gentle play. 9/7: Hula immediately begins to bark when he sees the male dog. A muzzle is placed on him before he is allowed to enter into the pen. Once in the pen, Hula displays stiff body language as he greets the other dog and allows the other dog to greet him. He becomes occupied with trying to remove the muzzle and the session is ended. 9/9: A muzzle is placed on Hula before he is allowed to enter the pen. Once is the pen he greets the female dog and allows her to greet him, displaying stiff body language. He becomes occupied with trying to remove the muzzle and the session is ended.
