Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft, soft and loose body, open mouth. Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Or dog indicates play with huffing, soft ‘popping’ of the body, etc. Dog jumps on Assessor once play begins. Squeeze 1& 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Her eyes are averted and her ears are relaxed. Toy: 1. No interest. Summary: Hoppy was friendly and very energetic towards the assessor. DOG-DOG INTERACTION ASSESSMENT: Summary PLAYGROUP: When off leash with dogs at the Care Center, Hoppy has displayed assertive posturing and has become reactive towards other dogs. Hoppy was surrendered as a stray so her past behavior around dogs is unknown. The Behavior Department recommends that Hoppy be the only resident dog at this time. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 4/25/17: During her medical examination, Hoppy was friendly and affectionate, she allowed all handling. ENERGY LEVEL: We have no history on Hoppy so we cannot be certain of her behavior in a home environment. However, she is a young, enthusiastic, social dog who will need daily mental and physical activity to keep her engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in additional to physical exercise, to positively direct her energy and enthusiasm. RECOMMENDATIONS: Experience (suitable for an adopter with some previous dog experience, especially with behaviors outlined below) _x_Recommend single dog home/no dog parks: Due to Hoppy’s assertive mounting, and the propensity for that behavior to not be received well by other dogs, along with her reactivity towards other dogs, the Behavior Department recommends that Hoppy be the only resident dog at this time. Reward-based training can be utilized to help Hoppy decrease her arousal level.
