Medical Summary Estimated age: 8-10 Microchip noted on Intake? n History : owned for week. several hour history of “seizure”: unable to walk, rolls from side to side. although behavior could be post ictal it is more likely a vestibular disease (see below) Subjective: Observed Behavior – legs in extension head lolled back. not responsive to touching etc Evidence of Trauma seen – possible Objective P: 200 r: eupneic EENT: ortational nystagmus ou. PLR sluggish Oral Exam: mod tartar PLN: SMLN enlarged H/L: NSR, NMA Lungs clear, eupnic ABD: Non painful, no masses palpated U/G: intact female MSI:non ambulatory, dirty coat, feces in fur CNS: extension of limbs and head, rotational nystagmus Assessment: geriatric vestibular diease versus other neuro disease or intoxication. Plan: Baytril 1cc sid x 10d, fluid support Prognosis: fair. if this is GVD as I suspect, it ususally resolves over a period of days to weeks, and most, if not all of symptoms disappear. The dog may need to be hand fed during recovery. If this is not GVD, the prognosis is poor. In a few days improvement shoudl be obvious BLOODWORK:ALT 198 TBILT 1.0 otherwise wnl recc bile acid profile in future, possible aus SURGERY: Permanent waiver due to illness
