A volunteer writes: Well, come onnnnnnnnnnnnnnn, whaddaya waiting for? Let’s play, let’s have some fun…..come onnnnnnnnnnnnnn. Bunny eared puppy Honey is ready to play, play, play! Exuberant, energetic, the world is her oyster and she’s ready to explore and conquer it all! Helllllo new friend – let’s go, I’ve got places to go, people to meet! She’s a little jumping bean who pulls on the leash in her excitement about – well, everything! Seeing the world through her eyes is like discovering it all over again. Off leash she’s excited about playing with a ball and even tries to wiggle under the gate to get it again when it rolls away. In my lap for exuberant kisses there is nothing that she does that isn’t done without boundless joy. Are you ready to par-tay! If so, you’re the one Honey wants to meet. Of course, she’s a puppy so in addition to a fun loving human partner, she needs structure and guidance to help her grow up into a rockstar adult dog. Yes, she’s looking for the best of all worlds and there’s no reason she shouldn’t have it.
SAFER:
Honey came into our center as a stray so behaviors in the home are unknown. She was friendly upon intake. For her relief walk Honey pulled and jumped. In the assessment room she displayed high energy, jumpy and playful. For Look she had a loose body and jumped in the assessor’s lap to lick her face. During Sensitivity she leaned in, body soft. She was playful for Tag, jumping on the assessor softly. She did not pull back her paw on either Squeeze attempt. She displayed minimal interest in the Toy, sniffing it. When approaching another dog at the care center on leash, Honey approaches quickly with body loose and tail above spine level. The Behavior Team recommends that Honey be placed in an Average home. She will need positive reinforcement training to teach her basic manners and not to jump. She would benefit from daily physical exercise, such as walks, runs, and play, and mental stimulation, such as Kongs and puzzle toys.
Look: 1. Dog leans forward or jumps up to lick the Assessor’s face with tail wagging, ears back and eyes averted.
Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture.
Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Dog jumps on Assessor once play begins.
Squeeze 1/2: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw.
Toy 1. Minimal interest. Dog may smells toy.
Dog – dog 1. Dog approaches the helper dog in play position. Her mouth is open.
