12/18/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
12/18/16 19:43 BASIC INFO Hollister A1100054 is an approximately 2 year old APBT. He is being surrendered to the shelter because he was found by a patron of NYC Parks Dept. tied to a fence at Tremont Park. The patron flagged over Park employees, who in turn untied him, placed him in a crate and brought him to ACCNYC Bronx. BEHAVIOR DURING INTAKE Hollister allowed all handling, collaring and photos.
12/27/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Move over, Derek Zoolander! There’s a new cat…I mean dog…in town. Poised and ready to take the fashion world by storm, 1 year-old Hollister is young, sweet, playful, and, of course, ridiculously, ridiculously good-looking. The moment this walking Oreo and I hit the city streets, we’re met with a chorus of, “stop!” “no!” and “that is TOO too much!” But don’t be confused by these passionate protests. After each and every one, Hol’s admirer then stops in their tracks, puts a hand to their heart, or audibly gasps and then grins. “Little superstar,” I murmur as we continue on our way, and Hollister struts out in front of me owning every inch of his catwalk (dogwalk?). But little did I know that I hadn’t seen nothin’ yet. The moment Hollister is dressed and prepped for pictures is the moment this star truly shines. Blue Steel? Forget it. Hollister throws me every perfect pose in the book, and if he has a bad angel, well, best of luck finding it. With a treasure trove of photos done in record time, I reward our young model with a toy, and Hollister couldn’t be more thrilled. There’s jumping and diving, there’s twists and there’s turns. What’s black, white, red, and green all over? Hollister and a holiday toy! And what a sight it is. So dust off that camera, ready that Instagram, and brace yourself for a chorus of “stop” “no!” and “that is TOO too much!” Because’s Hollister’s not “too much.” He’s exactly the right amount. He’s perfect. And he’s waiting in adoptions at Manhattan’s ACC.
12/20/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: N/A Unaltered, Stray Other notes: Upon intake Hollister allowed all handling. SAFER ASSESSMENT: Look: 1. Dog leans forward or jumps up to lick the Assessor’s face with tail wagging, ears back and eyes averted. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft or squinty, soft and loose body, open mouth. Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Toy: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. He does not place his body between you and the toy. Summary: Between assessment items Hollister mouthed and jumped up on the Assessor and attempted to mount. He was difficult to position, especially for squeeze, mounting the assessor’s leg whenever she sat down. Hollister may benefit best from an active household where he is provided with daily mental and physical stimulation. DOG-DOG INTERACTION ASSESSMENT: Selective: These dogs can succeed with certain other dogs, but may be more selective or picky. They may dislike certain ‘types’ of dogs or styles of dog play so they may require extra supervision when interacting with other dogs. PLAYGROUP: 12/20: When introduced off leash to male and female dogs in the care center, Hollister runs alongside other playful dogs. He begins to appear a bit aroused by running chase. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 12/18/16 During his initial medical exam Hollister allowed all handling. ENERGY LEVEL: RECOMMENDATIONS: Experience (Suitable for an adopter with a previous amount of dog experience) _X_No young children (under 5) Potential challenges: _X_Basic manners/Poor impulse control (It is recommended that default behaviors such as “Leave it”, “Sit/Stay”, “Down” are reinforced to substitute frustration and teach him to control his impulses instead of simply reacting; proper management is also advised. Force-free, reward based training is recommended.) _X_Mouthiness/Poor bite inhibition (Decreasing the force of the mouth as well as the frequency of mouthing, in this order is recommended by using force-free, reward based training as well to reinforce a soft appropriate mouth and redirect hard inappropriate mouthing onto toys.)
12/20/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Hollister engages in running chase play with male and female dogs in the care center. The behavior department recommends slow introductions between Hollister and other social or tolerant dogs. 12/20: When introduced off leash to male and female dogs in the care center, Hollister runs alongside other playful dogs. He begins to appear a bit aroused by running chase. 12/21-23: Hollister is solely intent on mounting female dogs in the pen. 12/27: Hollister engages in chase play with other playful male dogs. He offers correction when uncomfortable with mouthy play.
