I came in the shelter as a STRAY on 01/26/2017 from NY 11222, owner surrender reason stated was STRAY.

02/06/17 Monitor for diarrhea; also nasal discharge noted on rounds. O: BARH. Active, eating well. No diarrhea in run or reported today. EENT: Mild serous nasal discharge. H/L: Mild dry cough. A: CIRDC. P: Move to iso. Ex Doxycycline 100 mg 3 Po q 24 hours x 10 days. Excellent prognosis.

KNOWN HISTORY: None 1/26/17 Intact Male, Stray SAFER ASSESSMENT: 1/28/17 Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. His ears are back, his tail is down, and he has a relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag:1. Follows at end of leash, body soft but a bit distracted. Squeeze 1&2: 1. Dog does not respond at all. Toy: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. He does not place his body between you and the toy. Summary: Hogart was social but very fixated on smelling the assessment room and throughout the assessment. DOG-DOG INTERACTION ASSESSMENT: Summary PLAYGROUP: Hogart was surrendered as a stray, so his past behavior around other dogs is unknown. An attempt was made to introduce Hogart to a novel female. When Hogart greets a novel female dog through the gate, Hogart begins to low growl and bark at the female while muzzle punching the gate. Due to the greeter dog’s nervousness, they were not introduced. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 1/26/17: During his medical examination, Hogart was growling, very tense and muzzled for exam. ENERGY LEVEL: RECOMMENDATIONS: Experience (suitable for an adopter with some previous dog experience) _x_Single-dog home/Recommend no dog parks ( Due to the reactivity Hogart has displayed towards other dogs while here at the Care Center, the Behavior Department recommends that Hogart not be placed in a home with other dogs until he has had adquate time to decompress from the shelter and his behavior towards other dogs further addressed in a controlled environment. Force-free, reward-based training can be utilized to help counter-condition Hogart and help him associate other dogs with positive rewards such as toys or treats.)

Hogart was surrendered as a stray, so his past behavior around other dogs is unknown. 1/27: An attempt was made to introduce Hogart to a novel female. When Hogart greets a novel female dog through the gate, Hogart begins to low growl and bark at the female while muzzle punching the gate. Due to the greeter dog’s nervousness, they were not introduced. 1/28: An attempt was made to introduce Hogart to a calmer female dog. He becomes reactive, barking and muzzle punching the gate while fixated on the female. A muzzle was placed on him. Once in the pen, he rushes towards the female, sniffing her rear end and muzzle punching her body. He then becomes occupied with removing the muzzle and the session is ended.

01/26/17 Microchip scan neg. O: BARH. Growling and very tense, muzzled for exam. ORAL: Not assessed. EENT: No oculonasald ischarge. H/L: Lungs clear, no murmurs/arrhythmias. No coughing. ABD/UG: Intact male, both testicles palpable. Abd tense, palpation unremarkable. MS: Amb x 4, no lameness. BCS=4/9. INTEG: Full, slightly dirty haircoat. A: Age est 3 years. Apparently healthy. P: Ok for neuter surgery. Excellent prognosis.
