03/29/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Hodor is a fine young man, barely out of puppyhood. He is waiting patiently at his door, no barking involved. It seems that he is used to dealing with people and other dogs. Hodor is leashed easily, and off we aim for the street where he immediately does his business. He likes to sniff his premises. Hodor might be a stray, but he seems to have been well cared for. He has a nice, sociable and friendly personality. He owns a well made body wrapped in a bright orange coat that makes him ready for summer. He enjoys a great weight and looks pretty healthy. Hodor loves to play, run, play tag, play bow and even went after the ball a few times. He is not hyper, mouthy nor a leash player. Hodor, although lively, is well mannered, sits on command and takes treats quite nicely from my hand. I really enjoyed my time with this youngster: good looking, well put together and behaving in so many ways like a pet one would love to share his or her life with. Hodor is at the Manhattan Care Center, waiting for you and dreaming to be your forever best friend.
Another volunteer writes: If this cute little impish face doesn’t make you smile, then I don’t know what will! 100% adorable with his tail waggy, friendly, sweet personality, Hodor loves to meet new people, and a stranger is only someone he’s known for a nanosecond before moving into the friends category. I met Hodor as he was being moved into adoptions and was not happily going into his kennel. So, I took him for a walk and he went potty the moment we were out the door. No wonder he wasn’t ready for his kennel yet!! Smart boy! I so enjoyed my walk with him. I took him into the yard for some off-leash play time, and that’s where he showed off his sit, enjoyed some treats which he takes gently with the very edge of his teeth, posed for some pictures, and gave me some kisses. Named after a character from Game of Thrones, it is said that Hodor “says so much without really saying anything”. A character of mystery in the series, but there is no mystery about our Hodor. Ready to begin his happily ever after with a new person or family, our behavior team says he’ll be a good fit with someone with average dog experience. Come meet our little schmushy faced imp today!
03/28/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Hodor came into our center after a member of the public found him tied to a gate for several hours. He was relaxed during his initial medical exam. Hodor pulled slightly on leash for his relief walk. He jumped up to lick assessor’s face during Look item. Hodor leaned into assessor during Sensitivity item, open mouth pant, tail wagging. He playfully ran alongside assessor during Tag game, settled easily at the end. Hodor gently pulled his paw back on the first Squeeze attempt, did not pull back his paw on the second. He showed minimal interest in Toy. Hodor approached the helper dog with his tail above spine level, ears forward, whining. The Behavior Team feels Hodor would do well with an Average adopter. He may benefit from daily mental and physical stimulation in the forms of daily walks, runs, exercise, and play to positively direct his enthusiasm. Look: 1. Dog jumps up to lick the Assessor’s face with tail wagging, ears back and eyes averted. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft or squinty, soft and loose body, open mouth. Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game, indicates play with huffing, soft ‘popping’ of the body, etc. Squeeze 1 :1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are relaxed. Toy 1: No interest. Dog-dog: 2. Dog approaches the helper dog, body soft, tail well above spine level, ears forward, whining.
03/29/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Hodor is tense when interacting with females, he has not yet been introduced to a male but is stiff when greeting them. He is typically solely focused on mounting (he is currently unaltered), but he will engage briefly in running play. He arrived at the care center as a stray, so any in-home behaviors with other dogs are unknown. The behavior department recommends a pre-adoption interaction before placing Hodor into a home with other dogs. When off leash with other dogs Hodor is tense and follows behind the other dog in hopes to mount. The helper dog repeatedly offers correction, so he is unable to mount but does not stop following her. 3/30 update: Hodor is stiff intially but becomes a bit bouncy with prolonged time in the yard. 3/31 update: Hodor is tense upon greeting. He vocalizes and briefly runs along with the other dog (female) when solicited. He briefly postures to mount.
