07/01/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Tiger has been highly human-social in the care center, and was also noted to be social in his previous home. However, while in the home he chased, bit, and killed two cats in the neighborhood. Due to this behavior Tiger must not be placed in a home with cats or where he will have access to cats. Tiger also appears to dislike being crated and may break out of crates, so if crate training is attempted it needs to be entirely positive and a slow re-introduction. 6/10 SAFER assessment: Tiger came into the shelter as a stray, so his past behaviors in a home are unknown. Upon intake it was reported Tiger was calm and friendly he allowed all handling. During SAFER Tiger came into the assessment room loose and friendly he was social towards the assessor. He allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Tiger was relaxed during the tag interaction, and during the resource portion of the assessment Tiger was easy to handle when engaged with the item. Tiger appears to be sociable, and did not display any behavior concerns on the SAFER assessment. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted, with tail wagging and ears back. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is open for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 2. Dog is fearful, and unresponsive when touched. Dog attempts to exit. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are relaxed. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are relaxed. Toy 1: 1. Dog settles down close to chew, will relinquish toy to you. Dog-Dog:6/9 update: Tiger greets softly and appropriately. He may become slightly sexually motivated but does not attempt to mount. He solicits and engages in gentle bouncy play.
01/20/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Tiger was surrendered to our facility twice as a stray so his past behavior around dogs is unknown. When off leash with dogs at the Care Center in January, Tiger was nervous at first but did engage in gentle chase play. He was tolerant of females who continually solicited him to play and listened well to corrections from dogs and handler interruptions. Since being returned to the Care Center, Tiger has been utilized as a greeter dog. He greets new dogs softly and appropriately. Tiger engages in gentle play in a group of males and females. When introduced to a forwardly aggressive dog, Tiger’s arousal level will increase. He will respond by barking and lip curling. ***Social Greeter Dog*** 6/9 update: Tiger greets softly and appropriately. He may become slightly sexually motivated but does not attempt to mount. He solicits and engages in gentle bouncy play. 6/13-6/15: Tiger engages in high energy play and displays bouncy body language with a play partner. In group play with males and females, Tiger is a bit nervous and engages in gentler play. He is tolerant of a mouthy player. 6/16: Tiger’s arousal level increased when he met a male that was barking, lip curling, and lunging at the gate. Tiger responded by barking and lip curling. 7/1: Tiger greets a female dog displaying soft body language. He solicits and engages in gentle play.
