Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Hershe previously lived with adults and children ages 10 years old and up. The owner stated Hershe is shy at first but warms up and becomes playful with strangers, and with the children she is relaxed and affectionate towards them. The owner mentioned Hershe lived with two other dogs of the same size and around them she was relaxed, affectionate, and playful with them. It was reported by the owner Hershe will growl and snap if someone touches her food or bowl while she is eating, takes a treat away or takes a toy away. The owner describes Hershe as affectionate, confident, excitable and anxious. According to the owner Hershe is house trained, crate trained, has a high activity level and well behaved when home alone. At intake it was reported Hershe was friendly with her tail wagging, she allowed all handling. During SAFER Hershe came into the assessment room shy and a bit nervous, she was friendly and social towards the assessor with a slow approach after a few minutes. Not all handling items were able to be conducted as Hershe snapped at the assessor on the Look item. She displayed no interest in the resource item during this portion of the assessment. In light of this behavior we feel that placement with a rescue that can provide positive reinforcement-based behavior modification is the best option at this time. Look: 5. Dog tries to bite. Toy: 1. No interest.
