I came in the shelter as a OWNER SUR on 02/15/2016 from NY 10029, owner surrender reason stated was PERS PROB.

02/15/16 13:11 Hercules is a 6 year old male APBT mix. His family got him from a breeder and surrendered him because he bit his former owner’s son. The owner admits that the son provoked the dog and nothing like that had ever happened before. Hercules was last seen by a vet in January of 2015. This dog is generally very friendly and outgoing toward strangers. He will sniff them to get familiar. He likes to play with adults and kids. He is pretty gentle when it comes to play time. The child that Hercules was used to is 8 years old and they had a great relationship. Hercules does not seem to get along great with other dogs. He might bark or growl at them. He does not seem to like cats at all. This guy would be best off in a home where he can be the feature presentation. Hercules did bite his owner’s 8 year old son on 2/14/16. That is the only reason he is here. The owner stated that it was pretty much the child’s fault. He said that the dog may have gotten stuck in the reclining chair and the son was trying to hold the dog’s head and he reacted but he has never bitten anyone or anything before that incident. His former owner says that his behavior is generally very good; He is not bothered by fireworks or other loud noises. This big guy is pretty easy going. He is not bothered if his food is touched or a toy is taken away. The only thing he does not seem to like at all is getting his nails trimmed. Hercules’ former owner describes him in one word, affectionate, very affectionate. He has a medium activity level. He loves to run around in the yard but he also loves to nap on the floor close to his owner. Hercules normally finds a favorite spot at home where he can relax but also watch his family at the same time. He is used to dry Blue Buffalo food and boiled chicken. He is an amazing dog and would love to be home on your couch! This dog was visibly nervous during intake. He was shaking, pacing back and forth and he cried a lot when the owner left the room. I had the owner collar the dog and stay in the room while we took the dog’s picture.

Hercules walks calmly on leash. He was sociable toward the handler during the assessment – soft body. He was calm and relaxed during handling. Hercules was distracted, focused on objects in the room rather than the handler during the tag test. He took the toy away with a soft body language. He approaches the helper dog with his tail at spine level, body not stiff, ears relaxed, lip long. Hercules was surrender to us. According to his previous owner Hercules bit his 8yrs old son He said that the dog may have gotten stuck in the reclining chair and the son was trying to hold the dog’s head and he reacted but he has never bitten anyone or anything before that incident. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game (may need coaxing to approach.) He is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor.
