A volunteer writes: Seeing Mr. Henson’s big blockhead looking out at me from his kennel, I expected a stocky body to follow… Surprise! That big square head is attached to a slender, elegant torso which is attached to a wagging tail. He’s awesomely good looking, bouncy but good on leash, social and fun, sits for treats and takes them gently, poses for pictures like a super model, and his soft eyes are gentle and sweet. Off leash in a pen he bounces around greeting dogs coming and going from adjoining pens, and then will come into my lap for a quick kiss and hug before bouncing away to greet another dog. When in my lap I can almost hear him say, ‘wait, another dog, must meet, must greet..be right back! It’s no surprise that he did well in his first play group, engaging in running play with both males and females. Not only did he ‘wow’ me, he wowed our behavior team who feels he’ll do well in a home with average dog experience. This handsome bundle of ‘wow’ is hoping you’ll stop by to meet him today.
SAFER:
Henson walks calmly on leash. He was sociable toward the handler during the assessment – soft body. Henson was calm and relaxed during handling. He followed the assessor at the end of the leash with a calm and relaxed body language when playing tag. Henson was easy to handle when chewing on toys.
Henson did not show any concern during the behavior assessment. The behavior department feels that he can go to an Average home.
Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the
assessment item. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft, wagging tail, open mouth. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Toy: 1. Dog settles down close to chew, will relinquish toy to you.
Playgroup Notes:
Henson bounds through the pen and engages with males and females.
