09/01/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: None 8/30/17 Unaltered Male, Stray Other notes: SAFER ASSESSMENT: 9/1/17 Look:2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity:1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag:1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Or dog indicates play with huffing, soft ‘popping’ of the body, etc. Dog jumps on Assessor once play begins. Squeeze 1&2: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Toy: 1. Minimal interest in Toy, dog smells, then turns away. Summary: Henry Allen was friendly but becomes very mouthy and sexually motivated. PLAYGROUP: When off leash at the Care Center, Henry Allen is sexually motivated and is persistent with his behavior. He mounts both male and female dogs and difficult to interrupt. Henry Allen was surrender as a stray so his past behavior is unknown. The Behavior Department recommends that Henry Allen be placed in a home with a resident dog that matches his calm demeanor and is tolerant of his sexually motivated behavior. All introductions should be done slowly and under supervision. INTAKE BEHAVIOR 8/30/17: At intake when the counselor approached, Henry Allen pulled towards counselor and grabbed onto the hem of the counselor’s sweater and pull. No further handling was done due to behavior.

ENERGY LEVEL: We have no history on Henry Allen so we cannot be certain of his behavior in a home environment. However, he is a young, enthusiastic, social dog who will need daily mental and physical activity to keep him engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in additional to physical exercise, to positively direct his energy and enthusiasm. RECOMMENDATIONS: Experienced adopter, adult-only home _X_No children (under 13): Due to Henry Allen mouthiness and may be frighten to young children, we feel that an adult-only home would be most beneficial at this time. Potential challenges: _X_Basic manners/Poor impulse control: It is recommended that default behaviors such as “Leave it”, “Sit/Stay”, “Down” are reinforced to substitute any frustration and teach him to control his impulses instead of simply reacting; proper management is also advised. Force-free, reward based training only is recommended. _X_Mouthiness/Poor bite inhibition: While he applies mild pressure, Henry Allen was mouthy throughout the assessment and is quick to put his teeth on skin. This is likely an attention-seeking behavior, but it should be replaced with an alternative behavior as it can frighten people. We recommend never playing with bare hands – always with a toy – and ending play or attention whenever Henry puts teeth on skin. He should be rewarded with attention and treats when he stops and/or when he is seeking attention in alternate ways.

08/31/2017 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
When off leash at the Care Center, Henry Allen is sexually motivated and is persistent with his behavior. 8/31: Henry Allen greets the novel female dog with a tall stance and high tail. He explores the pens briefly before approaching the greeter to sniff her genital area. He attempts to mount her, ignoring the handler’s interruption. His leash is held to slow him down, but he remains sexually motivated throughout the session. 9/01: Henry Allen continues to persistently mount the novel male dog, ignoring handler interruptions.
