PROFILE :
Upon intake, Henry was very friendly and would roll over for belly rubs. No signs of aggression were noticed and he allowed all handling.
Henry came to us as a stray so we do not have any behavior information other than what has been observed while in the shelter. At the care center, Henry allows all handling with soft body language when interacting with staff and during his medical examinations. Due to Henry’s overall medical condition and specifically his difficulty walking and poor balance, a SAFER aggression assessment is not appropriate at this time. A behavior staff member interacted with him and reports the following:
Henry accepts touch everywhere on his body, is responsive to his handler, offers his paw and takes treats gently. Henry met another large dog through a gate and barked, but was easy to distract and walked away without issue. When left alone he may vocalize loudly but when interacted with gently he shows no obvious behavioral concerns.
Due to our inability to fully assess Henry’s behavior, as well as our lack of known behavioral history, we recommend placement with a New Hope partner who can address his medical conditions and then re-evaluate behavior in a stable home environment.
