SAFE 06/29/16**SENIOR DOLL BROUGHT IN WITH HER HONEY NOW ON THE AT RISK LIST FOR THE SECOND TIME!** Entered the shelter as part of a bonded pair – Group/Litter #K16-061539 – Helen and her very best friend, John, were found wandering by a good samaritan. This person did what one would THINK was the RIGHT thing: called the dog and the dog responded, came, and entered the vehicle with no incident. So, rather than leave two friendly dogs wandering the busy streets, it would seem only right to bring them to the local shelter where they would be claimed by their loving owners, right? Wrong. The Manhattan ACC doesn’t much want another pittie taking up space, nor do they have time to hunt down the owners of the dogs (if in fact, the owners WANT their dogs back). In fact, the ACC can’t even approximate Helen’s age – her shelter notes state that she is approximately 10 years-old, but later note she is about 8 years-old. Suffice it to say, Helen is between five and 10 years-old, extremely friendly, loved humans, allowed all handling, and her tail was wagging throughout this process. She even jumped up to lick the assessor’s face on occasion. However, she caught the dreaded shelter cold, and was immediately put on the To Be Destroyed list! WHAT? How about some antibiotics and a loving home? Ideally, it would be wonderful if both Helen and John could be adopted together. Please consider adopting or fostering Helen or both dogs tonight. Don’t let the ACC put them in body bags tomorrow!!

06/23/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Helen came into our center along with another large dog as they were found wandering a college campus together. She walked very well on her relief walk, no pulling. Helen was friendly, loose, and wiggly upon entering the SAFER assessment area. She jumped up to lick assessor’s face during Look item. Helen leaned into assessor during Sensitivity item, tail wagging. Helen followed at the end of the leash for Tag game, a bit distracted, jumped up at end of game. She did not pull her paw back on both Squeeze attempts. Helen showed minimal interest in Toy. When off leash with other dogs, Helen is loose and wiggly with her house mate. She did not engage in any play and often solicited handlers attention. The Behavior Team feels Helen would do well with an Average adopter. Look: 1. Dog jumps up to lick the Assessor’s face with tail wagging, ears back and eyes averted. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft or squinty, soft and loose body, open mouth. Tag: 2.
