09/17/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
09/17/16 17:30 Basic Information: Hefner is a ten year old yorkshire terrier and shih-tzu mix. He has a black and tan coat and is neutered. His previous family is no longer able to care for him and thusly surrendered him to our care. Socialization: When Hefner first meets a stranger he is a little shy and needs some time to get comfortable. His owner stated that with some time he opens up and allow others to pet him gently on his sides. His owner had two kids ages nine and two so Hefner had spent a significant amount of time around kids. He has not been around cats so his behavior around them remains unknown. Behavior: Hefner will use the bathroom when he goes on walks. However there have been several instances in which his owner was not home to take him out which resulted in accidents around the house. When his owner apporached his food bowls he would sit and wait until his owner was finished. If he is particularly anxious or hungry he would put his face in the food bowl. Additionally he has a a tendency to bark when a stranger rings the doorbell. There certain grooming practices that he is not fond of such as haircuts and nail trims. The owner warned that he is restless when this is going on and may try to nip. For a New Family to Know: Hefner’s favorite toys are balls, he enjoys chasing after the ball but there is no guarantee that he will bring it back. In terms of his diet he had been given Beneful exclusively. On walks he has a tendency to pull slightly on the leash. Overall his owner described him as a medium energy level dog. Behavior During Intake: During intake Hefner was visibly nervous and uncomfortable. He allowed handling but kept his gaze averted and continued to lick his lip. While his intake was being processed he sat under the desk and did not want to leave his spot. The counseor approached him from the side and sat next to him without making any contact so that he could become more relaxed. After about 10-15 minutes he heard some noise and came out from under the table. He alllowed counselor to pick him up and hold him with a towel.
