I came in the shelter as a STRAY on 08/10/2017 from NY 10016, owner surrender reason stated was ABANDON.

Hazel is an approximately 2 years old female pit bull that presented to MACC with bite wounds to the face. At this time, her wounds are completely healed and she is neurologically appropriate with no signs of Rabies.

She smiled at the admissions counselor and sat down nicely for treats. She licked the admissions counselor fist gently and stood in her hind legs. She rested her head gently in the admissions counselor’s lap.

She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft or squinty, soft and loose body, open mouth. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Toy: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. She does not place her body between you and the toy. Summary: Hazel displayed no concerning behaviors and was social throughout. DOG-DOG INTERACTION ASSESSMENT: Summary PLAYGROUP: Summary INTAKE BEHAVIOR Upon intake, Hazel had a loose, wiggly body and allowed handling. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 8/11/17 During her initial medical exam, Hazel was active and social ENERGY LEVEL: We have no history on Hazel so we cannot be certain of her behavior in a home environment. However, she is a young, enthusiastic, social dog who will need daily mental and physical activity to keep her engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in additional to physical exercise, to positively direct her energy and enthusiasm.
