07/21/2017 PET PROFILE MEMO
07/21/17 15:35 Hazel is a 3 year old, spayed large dog who was a gift from a friend. The previous owners received her when she was about 4 months old and they’ve had her ever since. They cannot keep her due to a new private landlord. She last went to the vet in February ago 6 months ago and has no known health problems. Around strangers Hazel will bark when approached then proceeds with a friendly and outgoing nature. She’s lived with numerous children in the house from newborn and older. She is respectful and protective around them. She is gentle when playing with children and a bit more exuberant when playing with adults. She has mainly been around small dogs and is very playful and gentle. It is unknown how Hazel will react around cats. She also has never bit any human or animal. Hazel often barks too much but isn’t bothered during a rain storm or fireworks going off. Hazel isn’t bothered when someone touches her food bowl or takes a bone or a toy away from her. She also isn’t bothered when she’s pulled off the furniture, being restrained or disturbed while sleeping. She tends to be afraid of the bath and enjoys being brushed but has never had her nails trimmed. She will bark if someone approaches the house or an unfamiliar person approaches. Hazel is affectionate, friendly and mellow. She has a high energy level, she loves to run and is lovable which is the previous owner’s favorite thing about her. She’ll follow around the home she loves chew bones and old shoes. Her favorite game is chasing you around and running. She’s spent an equal amount of time indoors and outdoors. She sleeps in her own bed located in the owner’s bedroom. She eats Rachel Ray chicken flavored dog food and enjoys anything with chicken in it. Hazel is housetrained and usually goes potty outside on the grass. When left alone she will bark or whine and has never been crate trained. She knows sit, “lay”, paw, come, stay and similar commands in Spanish. For exercise this dog used to go running and she’ll pull hard on the leash. Off the leash she’ll wander and run and will come when called. Behavior During Intake: Hazel was very stiff and leaned against owner and barked as I approached her. I let her sniff the microchip scanner for a few seconds but it took a few minutes for her to actually let me scan her because she tensed up and backed away everytime I placed it towards, she was negative. I was able to collar her and photograph her.
07/27/2017 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Her gorgeous swirling coat reminds me of the sweetest marble cake, or the finest marble from Italy’s quarries. She’s stunning! Ready to be leashed, we’re out the door so she can go potty and show off her lovely leash manners. It’s easy to tell she’s been a part of a loving family that included children of all ages. Surrendered to our care due to a new and not pet-friendly landlord, we’re told that Hazel is gentle when playing with the children, has been around small dogs and is playful and gentle, doesn’t guard her things, her favorite game is chase, and is bilingual (impressive!) knowing her commands of sit, lay, paw, come, and stay in both English and Spanish. Hazel was the first visit of my shift, and her fun personality, sweet playful energy stayed with me all day. She’s a doll! Play bowing to me when she was ready, we played fetch, some chase, she posed for pictures like the beautiful model she is, executing a perfect sit when asked. On our walk, she wagged her tail at everyone, was alert, curious and friendly. Hazel has shown her fun side to her canine peers, greeting all politely and then engaging in bouncy, running play. Looking back at the pictures I took, Hazel has one ear cocked up, and I like to think she’s listening for her new person or family to walk in the door. She knows that person is coming for her, shouldn’t it be you?
