A volunteer writes: Hazel is at her door, pressing her face against the bars..She wants to make sure I notice her while I am talking to her neighbor. Her mouth is open, her eyes are all on me, intense, eloquent and asking: “take me out, now, now, now and yes…please…” She is hard to resist, quite beautiful and adorable with her sparkling eyes and her mushy dark muzzle. She is well groomed and slender, athletic and pulls on the leash, full of energy to spend and excitement to be out and in company. She is a very attractive young female who was found as a stray, roaming all alone in a park. Hazel knows to come when called and will sit immediately for treats or a ball. It is funny to see her sliding on the snow at the call of her name and planting herself in front of me with misaligned feet, all energized at the sight of a toy or roastbeef. Give me, give me…She is sooo confident that I will succumb to her charm. She is so right!! She jumps a lot and can get carried away, sometimes grabbing my sleeve in the fire of the action. Hazel is a young girl and will need some training and lots of exercise to channel her energy. She can do it, she is smart and motivated by food and toys and she likes the company of humans. Hazel seems to like other dogs. She playbowed to some in the street and others in the yard. I think anything or anyone will spark Hazel’s attention and switch her to a play mode….She is fun to be with, despite the fact that she needs to be reminded from time to time to behave like a lady. Her “joie de vivre”, her “life in the moment” are an inspiration. Come and meet Hazel at the Manhattan Care Center. This awesome girl needs a teacher and an energetic master or family who will perfect her as a most amazing forever best friend.
