02/02/2017 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: I never had hashbrown with eggs (always picked the French fries instead) but if it tastes as good as our Hashbrown looks, I will have some at my next brunch. Hashbrown is a pretty chocolate and vanilla gal, very eager to come out of her kennel. She pulls quite a bit on the leash, does her business on the way and nears other dogs politely. She is a good listener, comes when called, sits at once on command and takes treats gently from my hand. She is one of the rare dogs not searching my bag for food. Hashbrown might have been quite upset upon arrival but she has made a 180-degree turn for the best, of course. She is one sweet and friendly gal who loves caresses and kisses. Come and meet her soon at the Manhattan Care Center and take her home as your forever best friend.
02/12/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: None 1/29/17 Unaltered female, Stray SAFER ASSESSMENT: 1/31/17 Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted, with tail wagging and ears back. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft or squinty, soft and loose body, open mouth. Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Toy: 1. Minimal interest, dog sniffs toy. Summary: Hash Brown displayed no concerning behaviors on her assessment. DOG-DOG INTERACTION ASSESSMENT: Selective: These dogs can succeed with certain other dogs, but may be more selective or picky. They may dislike certain ‘types’ of dogs or styles of dog play so they may require extra supervision when interacting with other dogs. PLAYGROUP: Hash Brown’s initial interactions with other dogs in the care center consisted of energetic play and interst in greeting. Most recently, Hash Brown has become increasingly uncomfortable and tense while greeting other dogs in the care center. The behavior department feels that Hash Brown may be most comfortable as the only resident dog at this time, pending follow up outside of the care center. Future introductions should be conducted with respectful dogs at a slow, one on one basis. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 1/29/17 During her initial medical exam, Hash Brown was difficult to examine and snapped at the scanner. ENERGY LEVEL: We have no history on hash Brown so we cannot be certain of her behavior in a home environment. However, she is a young, enthusiastic, social dog who will need daily mental and physical activity to keep her engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in additional to physical exercise, to positively direct her energy and enthusiasm. RECOMMENDATIONS: Experience (Suitable for an adopter with a previous amount of dog experience) _X_No young children _X_Single dog home _X_No dog parks (See PLAYGROUP) Potential challenges: _X_Fearful/potential for defensive aggression: Hash Brown had a fearful reaction to her initial medical exam, snapping during it. During times of high stress, possibly medical exams, she may react by snapping. Positive reinforcement, reward based training will need to be used in these situations.
