Harry
Hello, my name is Harry. My animal id is #9612. I am a male gray dog at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 2 years 1 weeks old.
I came into the shelter as a stray on 13-Oct-2017.
Harry 9612 is at risk for a respiratory infection (CIRDC). Behaviorally, Harry has been social and affectionate with humans though a bit uncomfortable interacting with dogs. Harry is suitable for an adopter with an average amount of dog experience.

A volunteer writes: Oh, for my name to be Sally, and then we could be all about When Harry meets Sally, but we’ll have to settle for When Harry meets Volunteer although it doesn’t have quite the same ring. This big galoomph of a gorgeous– and I mean GORGEOUS–dog seems to be so house trained, he ‘went’ often and long during our walk. He’d been holding it for a while, such a good boy. Harry pulls on the leash, so a harness and/or some leash training will be helpful, and good boy that he is, he ignored a small dog we passed along the way. Off leash in the yard, Harry shows off his snoz skills, sniffing every inch of the pen, sometimes marking some spots to let other dogs know, ‘Harry was here’. He loves to play, and enjoyed a ball more than a tug toy, then gave me some stand up hugs before running off to explore again. An amazing smile lights up his face as he waits for a treat or another toss of the ball. Harry did well on his behavior assessment and is patiently waiting for his new person to find him. Sensitivity:: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, eyes are averted, and tail is in neutral position with a relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item.
Tag:: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive when touched. Approaches the Assessor when the game ends (may need coaxing to approach). Dog is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor.

Summary:: Harry approached the assessor in the assessment room with a soft body. He was very distracted during the assessment, focused on sniffing around the room, and was somewhat aloof with the assessor. He allowed all handling and displayed no concerning behaviors.
Summary (1):: Harry’s history around dogs is unknown due to nature of arrival into our care. Harry has displayed tense, anxious behavior during interaction with dogs in our care. Any future introductions between Harry and dogs should be done with respectful, well socialized dogs, at a slow pace. 10/14: When introduced off leash to a female dog, Harry displays some tense body language and attempts to mount. He becomes less stiff throughout the interaction but continues to try to mount.

Behavior Asilomar: H – Healthy
Upon intake, Harry’s body was relaxed, ears dropping, and tail wagging. When counselor attempted to collar, Harry responded by bouncing from side to side, tail wagging. Counselor asked finder to collar instead and Harry remained calm. Harry was resistant when going into cage.

Basic Information:: Harry is approximately 2 years old gray and white large breed dog and is not neutered. Harry was found as a stray in a park. Client had Harry for one night before surrendering him. Client did not take Harry to the vet and is unaware of any injuries or health issues.
