08/17/17 17:34 Harpua was brought to the care center as a stray dog. The finder states that Harpua remained calm and was “friendly” with him and his girlfrid. They walked him around the block several times looking for an owner. Harpua walked well on a leash. While in the care center, Harpua maintained a relax soft body, tongue hanging out, and allowed all handling without behavior conerns.

A volunteer writes: Today was a very busy day at the shelter, and I couldn’t help but notice one sleepy, quiet, calm dog who seemed to just be chilling out despite all the noise and excitement. Even though I had walked by him 50 times during the day, he hadn’t jumped up and barked once– but once it was his turn for a walk, this sweet boy brightened right up! An absolute breeze on the leash (doesn’t pull at all!), Harpua seems to be housetrained and likes to go on slow, leisurely walks. When we sat down to take a break from the sun, he immediately came over, tail wagging, seeking attention. I suspect that Harpua’s very dry skin makes him a little itchy so I was careful to be gentle and to make sure he was okay with the spots where I pet him, but his tail kept wagging non-stop. Every time he saw a friendly face coming towards him on the sidewalk, Harpua sidled on over, tail wagging, to say hi. Harpua was surrender as a stray so his past behavior with other dogs is unknown. The Behavior Department recommends that Harpua be placed in a home with resident dogs that are tolerant and match his calm demeanor. 8/18: Harpua is sexually motivated, but does not mount. He displays a vibrating tail when sniffing the novel female dog. He explores the pen the rest of the session. 8/19: Harpua momentarily keeps to himself, before approaching and sniffing the novel male dog. His ears erect and he persistently follows the other dog, ignoring his warnings. He is slow down by handlers, and explores the yard the rest of the session. 8/20-25: Harpua greets a novel female dog before wandering in the pen. He briefly reciprocates bouncy play and listens to another female’s harsh correction. 8/26- 8/27: Harpua is utilized as a greeter. He is sexually motivated, and persistently solicits cooperative play. He briefly listens to corrections, but can be persistent with his solicitations at times.
