05/28/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Full of spirit and big of heart, if Harmony were a song she’d definitely be one you could dance to, and just like a catchy tune I find myself smiling whenever she comes to mind. She’s a tomboy with a ton of energy and SO much love to give, a real family-style pet who’d like nothing more than to be surrounded by a crowd of admirers at all times. Every person she meets is cause for celebration, every dog a new best friend and every item I toss to her is turned into a toy in an instant. Even though she’s a high energy pup, Harmony’s well-trained in the basics of good etiquette and comes when called, sits on command, softly mouths treats from my hand and seems very house trained. She does pull a bit on leash, but with her smarts and willingness to please, I’m sure she’d be eager to add ‘heel’ to her repertoire too–with the right tasty motivation, of course! Best of all, she’s an absolute gem in playgroup and very tolerant of even the most obnoxiously playful youngsters, so a future full of play dates with both two and four-legged pals would be her dream come true. If you love puppies but are looking for one who’s already got some ‘experience’ under her belt, then Harmony is the gal for you. She’s waiting right now at our Manhattan Care Center, ready to dance out of her kennel and straight into your heart! Another volunteer writes: I think that a lifetime of singing the melody with Miss Harmony would be perfection! She’s a gorgeous dog, loving, fun, tail waggy, affectionate, and oh so tolerant of a bouncy puppy who just wanted to play as she was trying to relax. She captured my heart at “hello” and will definitely capture yours when you meet her. Run, don’t walk, to sing your duet with Harmony.
05/26/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Harmony pulls a bit on leash. She was excited but very interested in interacting with handler during assessment – jumped up, mouthy (moderate). Harmony was excited and mouthy during some of the handling items, but had soft body language. She was playful and played tug-of-war with the leash during tag interaction but was easy to distract her. She took the toy with a soft body language. The behavior department feels that she may do best with an experienced adopter who can follow up on this behavior in a more stable environment and can provide any necessary behavior modification. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 2. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. She played tug-of-war with the leash during tag interaction but was easy to distract her. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Squeeze 2: 2. Dog gently places her open mouth over the Assessor’s hand applying moderate pressure. Toy 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. She does not place her body between you and the toy. Playgroup Notes: Harmony greets a female loose and offers a play bow. When introduced she briefly bounces around then tenses and begins chasing and attempting to mount her.

When introduced she briefly bounces around then tenses and begins chasing and attempting to mount her. 5/26 update: Harmony engages in rough play with other dogs.
