01/13/2017 PET PROFILE MEMO
01/13/17 18:55 Basic information: Hanoi was brought in as a stray. The finder found Hanoi on the street, the finder brought Hanoi to the shelter. No other information could be provided during intake. Intake Behavior: During intake Hanoi had tense, stiff body. Hanoi would retreat from extended hand and growl and bark and attempted to snap at the handler. Hanoi was not willing to allow to be scan or collared. We were able to picture, and place in a dog kennel.
01/17/2017 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Wagging his tail in greeting as dogs pass his kennel, Hanoi in his shaggy fur coat caught my attention. A proud member of the ‘frosted face’ club, Hanoi wears his age well. He steps out of his kennel gently, and may be housetrained, as he pottied once we were outside. His leash manners are good as he trots nicely by my side. Hanoi has cloudy eyes, which might be one reason that, at this point, he doesn’t like to be touched; he doesn’t know me, and he doesn’t see my hand approaching. Off leash in a pen he explored, came to me for a treat, but it wasn’t up to his standards so he didn’t take it. At his age, he can have whatever he wants! Hanoi is looking for his retirement home; a soft bed, good nutritious food, and soft loving, if that’s what he wants. He deserves the respect and love of a life well lived.
01/15/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: N/A Altered, Stray Other notes: Upon intake Hanoi had a tense, stiff body. He growled, barked, and snapped at the handler. SAFER ASSESSMENT: Summary: Hanoi avoided the assessor while attempting to collar him. He backs away from touch and becomes stiff when the handler approaches. Hanoi is unable to be assessed and would be best set up to succeed through rescue placement. PLAYGROUP: 1/15: When introduced off leash to other dogs in the care center, Hanoi greets politely. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 1/14/17 During his initial medical exam Hanoi allowed minimal handling, he appeared nervous, tense, and painful. ENERGY LEVEL: Recommendations: New Hope Only _X_No children (under 13) _X_Place with a New Hope partner (Due to the fear/avoidance behavior displayed in the care center, we cannot fully evaluate Hanoi and feel that he will be best set up to succeed through placement with a New Hope partner. We recommend only positive reinforcement-based, force-free training for Hanoi as aversive methods are likely to heighten his fear and increase aggression.) Potential challenges: _X_Fearful/potential for defensive aggression (Hanoi is extremely nervous around strangers and can be difficult to handle. Hanoi shows clear signs of discomfort and it is important to respect those signs and to help Hanoi gain comfort and confidence in order to avoid escalation.)
01/15/2017 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
