03/06/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
Han Solo, whose nickname is Pa-Pa, is a 3 year old Am. Staff./APBT mix. He came to ACC as a stray 2 years ago. His owner adopted him but is unable to keep him due to his strength. Han Solo is usually friendly/outgoing with strangers. He plays exuberantly with people. He hasn’t been around children. He was relaxed and playful with other dogs at the dog park during the first 6 months in his home. After that, he gradually became tense and anxious with them; he would bark and growl at them from across the fence when they arrived, and would sometimes continue once they came in. He pulls towards and barks and growls at other dogs on walks. When greeting them, he usually continues this, but is sometimes relaxed and playful. There was another large female dog whom he saw often and played exuberantly with. Han Solo has never bit a person or animal. Han Solo doesn’t mind storms. He doesn’t mind when someone takes his food/treat/toy, moves him off furniture, holds/restrains him, or wakes him up. He’s nervous during baths. He barks when someone comes to the door but is friendly once new people come into his home. He is usually friendly with strangers who approach his owner, but occasionally growls at them. This occurs on walks when a stranger approaches and stands directly in front of his owner, close to her, facing her. He stays at his owner’s side and growls. Han Solo’s owner describes him as friendly, affectionate, playful, excitable, and high energy. He follows his owner around. He appreciates walking along the water and listening to classical music, Chinese violinists, and Carole King. He plays fetch, chase, and tug, and likes his balls, stuffed bear, little tire, and his football. He lived inside and slept with his owner or on a dog bed, often on his back with his legs sprawled out. He ate dry and wet Pedigree food and got rice, beans, chicken, and beef as treats. He’s housetrained, doesn’t have accidents, and potties on grass outside. He’s well-behaved while home alone and sits when asked. He went for brisk walks and pulls on his leash. Han Solo had a wagging tail while jumping up and down on Admissions Counselor’s legs. He allowed Admissions Counselor and other clients to approach him and pet him and had a soft body and wagging tail. Han Solo became more anxious after spending more time inside of the Admissions Office. He began to pant more while whimpering. He was collared, scanned for a microchip(positive) and photographed.
05/03/2014 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Engaging. Energetic. Bright eyes. Affectionate. Playful. Handsome. Shall I go on? Han Solo wears a gorgeous coat of a color that defies description; taupe, copper, bronze, gold, gray all mesh together to create an unusual color that has yet to be named in a box of Crayola crayons – even the 125 crayon box! A tad thin in my opinion, Han Solo is nonetheless gorgeous, with bright eyes that make soft contact, a wagging tail and a friendly, enthusiastic energy. Likely housetrained he ‘went’ as soon as we were out the door. He’ll need some leash training as he pulls on the leash, so we headed for the back yard where he could run and play off leash. He loves playing fetch, gleefully running after the ball and bringing it back for another toss. I was the happy recipient of some stand up hugs and kisses as Han Solo loves human contact. He may be selective in the dogs he likes to spend time with, so if you have a resident dog, as always, a meet and greet is highly recommended. Han Solo is hoping you’ll stop by today to meet him.
03/05/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Han Solo pulls hard on the leash. He was excited but very interested in interacting with handler during assessment – jumped up. He was excited during some of the handling items, but had soft body language. He became overaroused during the tag interaction He did a lot of jumping up and body checking while playing tag. Han Solo took the toy with a soft body language. The behavior team noticed some evidence of anxiety. Han Solo walk back and forth in straight lines, he tries to escape from the behavior room. Barking and whining is persistent and doesn’t seem to be triggered by anything. Han Solo is an active dog he need a significant amount of exercise and mental stimulation. The behavior department feels that he can go to an experience home without children. We recommend that potential adopters feel comfortable with separation anxiety behaviors and prepared to manage and positively modify them should they appear in a home environment. Look: 3. 02/24/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
When off leash with other dogs, Han Solo is bouncy, bowing at the helper dog, to solicit play. He offers a correction when the helper dog accidentally jumps on his back during play. The behavior department recommends that Han Solo be allowed time to acclimate to a new home environment before introducing him to resident dogs. Previous owner cites the following: “He was relaxed and playful with other dogs at the dog park during the first 6 months in his home. ”
