Medical memo: 03/29/16 09:05
According to the owner Guy A1068759 has a right ear infection which hasn’t been treated due to lack of funds. Guy may have some scabs or scratch marks due to his scratching it.
A volunteer writes:
Looking for a petite and affectionate pet? A playful young charmer? A handsome boy not afraid of a little dramatic eyebrow pencil? Then we’ve got just the Guy for you! Clocking in at a sleek 32 pounds, Guy’s the perfect size for snuggling and very happy to oblige with stand-up hugs or lay-across-your-lap petting, his delicate nose snuffles just as endearing as any kiss. Out on our walk those hound-y genes come to the fore as he strolls calmly on leash but follows his nose wherever it leads, stopping often to give something a thorough sniffing or even a little taste. Passing pups are met with friendly interest and he’s never anything but low-key and gentle toward other dogs, greeting politely in playgroup before quietly going on about his own business. We’re told he lived in harmony with a teenager and played happily (if a little roughly) with younger children too and that he has no issues sharing his food or toys, being groomed or even taking a bath. Guy enjoys playing with squeaky toys and while he briefly showed me that he knows balls are for chasing, it’s clear that socializing is his game of choice and he simply can’t get enough of people and all their fussing and cuddles. Already neutered and boasting a great behavior evaluation, this darling boy is ready to walk out the front door as soon as you are. Ask to meet our good Guy today!

PROFILE

Guy A1068759 is a 1yr old neutered male white with black/gray perhaps Pointer/Jack Russell Terrier mix that was given to the owner from the previous owner 4months ago & is being surrendered due to personal problems. Guy was last seen by a veterinarian 2months ago to be neutered/vaccinated and currently is experiencing an ear infection that hasn’t been checked out yet.

SOCIALIZATION

Around strangers Guy is friendly/outgoing. He lived with a 15yr old and was gentle, exuberant (during play he doesn’t know his strength at times- with the younger grandkids he’s spent time with and can be a little mouthy with them -not applying pressure) & very playful with them also with the adult in the home. Guy hasn’t lived with other animals but when he spots a dog on the street he ignores them. Guy has never bitten/scratched any person or animal

BEHAVIOR

Guy isn’t fully house broken. He bothered by the following: being bathed, having his food/food bowl, toys/treats touched/moved, being brushed or being disturbed while sleeping/resting. Guy hasn’t had his nails trimmed. If someone approaches the home/family member Guy will bark & greet them.

FOR A NEW FAMILY TO KNOW

Guy is described as friendly, affectionate, playful, confident, & excitable with a medium-high activity level. The owner likes how friendly he is. Guy enjoys playing with ball, squeaky & stuffed toys. He’s mostly an indoor only dog who sleeps on a dog bed & is walked 1-2x a day where he pulls strongly on his leash at times. Guy eats dry dog Pedigree food a full bowl throughout the day and likes any kind of dog treats. Guy’s known command is “sit”.

INTAKE BEHAVIOR

Guy allowed all handling. He had a loose, wiggly body and seemed to enjoy being pet & played with. Guy allowed to be scanned (-), collared & taken pictures of. He was then lifted by his hind end into the kennel as he was too smart to fall for me attempting to coax him into it.

SAFER

Guy walks calmly on leash. He was sociable toward the handler during the assessment – soft body.  He was calm and relaxed during handling.  Guy followed the assessor at the end of the leash with a calm and relaxed body language when playing tag. He took the toy away with a soft body language.
Guy was surrender to us. His previous owner described him as a friendly, affectionate, playful, confident, & excitable with a medium-high activity level. Around strangers Guy is friendly and outgoing. Guy hasn’t lived with other animals but when he spots a dog on the street he ignores them. Guy enjoys playing with ball, squeaky & stuffed toys. He doesn’t mind having his food/food bowl, toys/treats touched/moved”. Guy did not show any concern during the behavior assessment. The behavior department feels that he can go to an Average home.
Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions.
Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item.
Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft, ears relaxed, wagging tail, open mouth.
Squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds.
Squeeze 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds.
Toy: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. He does not place his body between you and the toy.

PLAY GROUP

When off leash with other dogs, Guy is fearful but eventually warms up to greeting.
3/31 update:
Guy offers brief greeting but mostly keeps to himself in the yard afterward.
