Gucci
Hello, my name is Gucci. My animal id is #11718. I am a male brown brindle dog at the Brooklyn Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 12 years old.
I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 04-Nov-2017, with the surrender reason stated as person health – debilitating injuries.
Gucci is at risk for behavior concerns (New Hope Only behavior determination). He has been fearful with her human caretakers, the stress of being in the shelter has made him difficult to handle.
My medical notes are…

ACC does recommend you consult with your veterinarian to determine if surgical sterilization is appropriate.

Summary:: Gucci appears to be uncomfortable or afraid of the slip lead. He has also allowed minimal handling from his caretakers. Out of concern for his stress levels and his response to restraint, we feel Gucci is not a great candidate for a handling assessment at this time. Please see his owner surrender profile for a full summary of his behavior in his previous home.
Summary (1):: Gucci previous guardian reported that he will bark and lunge at other dogs while on a walk. 11/05: When off leash at the Care Center, Gucci approaches the novel female dog with a nervous and tense posture– head lowered and hackles raised. He gives the other dog a low growl warning when she becomes too pushy with her face greeting. 11/06: Gucci briefly greets another male dog with a slightly tense posture then wanders the yard.
Date of intake:: 11/4/2017
Date of initial:: 11/5/2017
Summary:: Very frighten, lunging, growling.
IN SHELTER OBSERVATIONS:: Gucci has displayed fearful behavior in shelter, he displays very little social behavior towards handlers and attempts to increase distance and avoid contact. Because he is so uncomfortable, Gucci has not tolerated any form of human-touch and has head-whipped upon contact.
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:: NEW HOPE ONLY
Behavior Asilomar: TM – Treatable-Manageable
Recommendations:: No children (under 13),Place with a New Hope partner
Recommendations comments:: No children: Due to how uncomfortable Gucci is currently with touch and novel stimuli, we feel that an adult-only home would be most beneficial at this time. New hope partner: Gucci has not acclimated well to the kennel environment and has allowed only minimal handling since intake. We recommend placement with a New Hope partner who can provide any necessary behavior modification (force-free, positive reinforcement-based) and re-evaluate behavior in a stable home environment before placement into a permanent home.
Potential challenges: : Fearful
Potential challenges comments:: Fearful: Though observed to be human-social, Gucci may need time to warm up to the handler as he initially presents as a fearful dog, avoiding contact, shying away from direct touch. We recommend allowing Gucci to interact at his own pace, force-free, rewarding based training is advised when introducing him to new/unfamiliar situations.
