09/09/2017 PET PROFILE MEMO
09/09/17 11:19 During intake Gryffindor and the other dog he was in the crate with were barking from inside the crate and were not handled by the counselor. Gryffindor’s body was loose while in the crate and the counselor could see his tail wagging, but he was barking, whenever the other dog in the crate would bark. However, the counselor interacted with him after he was taken out of the crate and she was able to pet him and he had a loose wiggly body and was eager to approach the counselor for affection. He seemed to get along with the other dog in the crate, when both were barking from inside the crate, they would not redirect to one another. The officers stated that officers from the overnight shift did walk them, however, they were difficult to get back into the crate and were in the crate, together, for a while before coming to the shelter.
09/12/2017 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: A well known house in the School of Hogwarts, it’s values are courage, bravery and determination. And our Gryffindor displays all those attributes and adds the following: good leash manners, likely housetrained, and an enjoyment of play time. And let’s not forget his love of butt scratches, as he carefully positions himself to allow me perfect access to his adorably rounded rear end so that I can scratch away. So cute!! Gryff (nickname Harry Potter approved), also loves to chase a tennis ball, occasionally showing off his retrieve, played tug with me with a toy, and then joined me on the bench for some hugs and kisses–and of course, another butt scratch! Gryff is excited to meet new people and greet another dog through the gate, but in his first playgroup, kept to himself. When our time together was over, Gryff hopped right back into his kennel, and gave me a wave of his tail. Our handsome Gryff invites you to stop by and meet him today.
09/10/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: None 9/9/17 Unaltered Male, Stray SAFER ASSESSMENT: 9/10/17 Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted, with tail wagging and ears back. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is closed. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft. Squeeze 1/2: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Toy: 2. Dog takes toy away, keeps a firm hold. His body is between you and the toy, and he is loose and wiggly. No growling or stiffness. Summary: Gryffindor displayed no concerning behaviors on his assessment and was social throughout. PLAYGROUP: Due to arriving as a stray, history around dogs is unknown for Gryffindor. 9/10: When introduced off leash to dogs, Gryffindor is cautious when approached, and attempts to keep to himself. INTAKE BEHAVIOR: Upon intake, Gryffindor allowed handling and had a loose body. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 9/9/17 During his initial medical exam, Gryffindor was tense. ENERGY LEVEL: We have no history on Gryffindor so we cannot be certain of his behavior in a home environment. However, he is a young, enthusiastic, social dog who will need daily mental and physical activity to keep him engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in additional to physical exercise, to positively direct his energy and enthusiasm. RECOMMENDATIONS: Average (suitable for an adopter with an average amount of dog experience)
09/10/2017 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Due to arriving as a stray, history around dogs is unknown for Gryffindor. Though initially cautious during introductions to dogs in the care center, Gryffindor has begun to open up and display interest in play. He has not yet been introduced to a male dog in our care. Very slow, supervised introductions are recommended between Gryffindor and social, respectful dogs. 9/10: When introduced off leash to dogs, Gryffindor is cautious when approached, and attempts to keep to himself. 9/13: Gryffindor is tense when greeting the female helper dog. He becomes acclimated after sniffing, and immediately softens, engages in bouncy play.
